New bill limits student loan payments to 15% of income - Dream come true for TTT

It will be the reason I vote democrat, believe that.

Bush already said he will veto it. Pwned again.

"Mr. Bush has threatened a veto over the loan-forgiveness provisions as creating new entitlement programs, and said more of the savings from the cuts in lender subsidies should go to increasing the size of Pell grants."

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/12/washington/12loan.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

"this only applies to govt subsidized loans (Stafford and other types). Private loans will not change, so it's not a solution for those loans.

The federal PLUS seems to be covered by the bill. A student can finance their entire education through Federal PLUS and Stafford, and so wouldn't need a private loan. "the Graduate PLUS loan is an unsubsidized federally guaranteed education loan with no annual or aggregate limits." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grad_PLUS

The bolded above is just retarded... in the article it said that they will increase the pell grant from 4700 to 5200.. WOW a whopping $500!  That is nothing when you have $150,000 in student loans you are trying to pay back..

They will never increase the pell grant enough to make a difference.. at least for graduate students like us.. Plus, don't pell grants go to only students with a "financial need"  meaning only what they deem to be poor families?

Which means the entire middle class continues to be screwed which is the majority of people in the US

Gah what an a-hole... why cant there be a social moderate people will get behind.  Everyone wants to either turn America into a socialism or instate a feudal system.

However, the article does go on to say:

"Senate aides on both sides of the aisle said they doubted that Mr. Bush would follow through with a veto"

Don't believe anything until it actually happens... Learn it, live by it..

If Bush vetos this then  >:(

And welcome to the incoming Democrat president in 2008.

Yes, because college students vote. If the (likely) party shift in the white house happens, this won't even make the top 50 reasons why.

And no this is not the top reason to vote dem.. but it just adds to the list.

But it doesn't make any difference if both nominees dem or rep. are from the same group of people.. Skull and Crossbones.. blah blah..

Yes, but it has to get voted to become law.

Well the house passed it by a huge majority, and based on that I doubt the Senate would vote it down. It would be interesting if Bush kills it.

Hmm, good point. Might be worth stalling it till after election ;) The new and improved wiimote proves much better btw, kudos for that;)

I'm far from a polsci major, but seems to be inevitable in a two party system, the extremes gets people's attentions and the moderates become a bit too invisible.

this thread is approved.

That's why I heart proportional representation.  Acutally, I prefer Germany's system, but I'd take proportional representation any day.
