Law School Discussion

The Limousine Liberal / Champagne Socialist / Bollinger Bolshevik Lounge

( )

This is a fine retreat for lounging limousine liberals.

If you read Chomsky, but lose "American Power and the New Mandarins" under your copy of Fox and Hound...

If you realize that Robert S McNamara's turn of heart did NOT constitute his "jumping the shark"...

If you enjoy a Grande Dame while wathing Firing Line reruns on PBS...

If your subscription to The Nation comes just a little bit before your contribution to the ONE campaign...

If Amnesty International stickers look smashing on your picnic hamper...

PLEASE LOUNGE.

Incidentally, anyone wishing to proclaim their membership in the Limousine Liberals group is encouraged to display, with just enough pride, the following:

I'm not sure I want to put myself in this category, as my politics are all over the place, but it sounds like it has potential to be an intriguing place to stop into from time to time as I make the rounds . . . just don't count on me having anything to contribute.  I'm very good, however, at slowly nodding while wrinkling my brow.

Excellent!  It's so hard to find a good batch of mussels in the midwest you know, I've been most deprived.  Too bad about all those poor immigrants, indeed . . .

So, what horrendous abuses have we observed (from a distance) today?

In other news, we have to refinish the teak on the boat again. Wooden boats, SUCH a lot of maintenance....

I know an excellent carpenter that specializes in teak - a tad pricey but worth every penny!  Me - I'll stick with my fiberglass catamaran, thank you very much!

I've been hearing much fervent discussion about the abysmal state of our public schools - thank God my Syndey's at Exeter.  Still, 'tis a pity.

So, what horrendous abuses have we observed (from a distance) today?

yesterday on my way home from work, npr ran a story about farmers in china's most remote and arid areas trying to survive on less than $1000, US annually, and government handouts.  they used to live in caves carved into the hillsides.  it got a little hard to hear with the windows down, so i put them up and turned on the air conditioning.

How is the AC in that Bentley of yours holding up, BTW?  After my horrendous experience with the pathetic blast of lukewarm air that passes for AC in a Rolls Royce, they shall never again garner my business.

As a disclaimer, I have a great affection for the poor and benighted, and do deeply wish to help them. I just do so in a way that preserves my enjoyment of the finer things. This is not at all hypocritical, before you complain. The enjoyment of the good life goes hand in hand, I think, with a desire to make things better for those less fortunate. In that order.

I may not be a man of the people, but I do try to be a man for the people.

Oh, you know, it's just one of my little indulgences!  I simply must remember to file that petition with the AHQA on the outlandishness of their fees - but then again, they do such good work to prevent the abuse of those poor horses you see on those pathetic, half-acre farms, wallowing in their own feces amidst the decrepit stalls, it breaks your heart it does!
