rejection phone call?

I just did an interview today,and got a call 3 hours later. But I did not carry my cell phone with me and the person left no voice message. It was past 5pm. I checked my email and found the secretary asking me if I got a phone no by which they could reach me.

Could it be a rejection phone call? have you got any rejection calls before? damn, it must be embarrassing. If it was an acceptance I wonder why they did not just send me an email.

but why didn't they simply send me an email? in that way they could get my acceptance via email too.

I am damn worried that they prefer to say something embarrassing to me on the phone (which they prefer not to write in email)

nah, maybe they think giving a rejection over hte phone is more polite than via email.
I would loathe to get a rejection over the phone, though.

I have actually found the whole hiring thing very arbitrary.
I got another judicial internship today without any interview. The acceptance letter just arrived via email. And it's from a fed. judge of NY.

FWIW, I got a rejection phone call a couple of weeks ago.  It was from a tiny nonprofit, and they were encouraging me to apply again next year.  Thankfully, I'd taken another internship, so it wasn't too soul crushing.

Yikes. In my experience, when they call so shortly after an interview, it means you either got the callback or you got the job. I've never heard of a rejection over the phone. Recruiters are cowards, hence rejection emails/letters.
