Cajun- are you going to read any of these books?
For anyone who lives in Houston: I ordered all of these books and am happy to share them with you as soon as they arrive.
Hey Tragic,
I've actually already read:
- A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr- the story of a recent environmental lawsuit
- Acing Your First Year of Law School: The Ten Steps to Success You Won't Learn in Class by Shana Connell Noyes, Henry S. Noyes
- Getting to Maybe: How to Excel on Law School Exams by Richard Michael Fischl, Jeremy Paul, and Jeremy R. Paul
I've also read "Law School Confidential".
Of the four, I personally thought "Law School Confidential" & "Getting to Maybe" were excellent.
"GTM" is a somewhat 'deep' read, if ya know what I mean. I can't say I totally understood everything in "GtM", but then again, that book requires you to know some law already. I'm hoping a second read thru will help clarify matters. I do think it's potential value is tremendous, however.
"LSC" was, to me, just fantastic. I liked it's practical, down to earth approach about how to proceed in law school. Heck, I've already purchased multiple colors of highlighters to bread down cases with (you'll understand that better once you've read it)
"AYFYoLS" was a disappointment. Not as practical as "LSC" or as potentially valuable as "GTM".
"ACA" was, to me, useless. Once again, it helps if you're already familiar w/ the law (perhaps a 2L or 3L). I also didn't care for some of it's obvious political slants at times.
The only other book I might purchase is Academic Legal Writing. Once again, b/t work and home maintenance, I just don't have the hours in the day to read ALL of these missives. Also, I think it might be a hurculean task to try and read all of them if you haven't started yet. LSC is rather thick, and GTM is requires some 'pauses to ponder' at times.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth.
Once again, thanks for sending out the list!
