Incoming 1Ls / Re: X60 vs. T61

I have a z61t, which size-wise is pretty close to the T61, and seemed best to me. I actually called IBM and talked to one of the people who help you choose a laptop, and I really recommend that, as I am very happy with my laptop and it has everything I want in a good size.

If you can't take a class, get Elements of Style by Strunk and White. It basically goes over a bunch of grammar rules, and I've heard its helpful even for people who grew up in the U.S. and think they've got the writing thing down. It goes over the rules for commas, etc.

I have a question for someone who might know- are the curriculum changes going to happen this year, or the next? Is the academic calendar online accurate, meaning that we still have finals after break? My brother is getting married over the winter, and I don't know when I'm available!

Advice: don't worry, since if you just barely missed it you still have a shot at a room. I'd maybe call or e-mail the housing office just to let them know you definitely want a room. Good luck.

I'm in Holmes Hall, second floor. Anyone near me?

good idea- I'll have to look into the portable ACs. My room is small, so all I really need is something powerful enough to keep me comfortable when its hot outside. Thanks for the advice!

So I take it that means no air conditioning in Gropius? I've had a window air conditioner before, and its fine if you have multiple windows, but it sort of sucks not to be able to open your window as long as you have an air conditioner. How hot does it get in Boston? I'm from the Valley in California, and its in the 100s in the summer. It doesn't get that hot, does it?

Can someone tell me if Gropius has air conditioning at all? I don't care if I can control it myself of anything, but will  I basically have to drink ice water and buy multiple fans to survive the couple weeks of summer in Boston if I live there? Thanks!

I got bumped once yesterday, reselected, and haven't been bumped since. I hope that means I got the room. Its just a room in Holmes, so perhaps its not particularly exciting to anybody, but hopefully this is the end of the dorm picking process for me. Good luck to people picking in the second wave!

Hi, I'm new to this thread- tried to read it but its too long. I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions for a reasonably priced notebook that is very light and portable? I have an IBM Z61t that I love, but its not particularly light (I think its something like 4.5 pounds) and I would like to have a laptop that has the basics that I can lug around and then just leave my IBM at home. Thanks for any advice!
