The one thing I appreciate about XO you can't get here at times is honest advice- posters at LSD are often too afraid of offending each other and won't tell the "truth"-

XO is a festering TTT in decline.

credited. I used to read xo, now i find it useless. LSD should get ready to be inundated by douchebags.

Hey Jolie!   :)

Maybe I'm beating a dead horse, but I'm playing with Omni right now (it came already on my Macbook) and I'm just wondering what you think the advantages are to using it over Word.  Also, it wanted me to upgrade to either Omni Outliner or Omni Outliner Professional (for a fee, of course).  Is this necessary?

Thanks, and glad to see you back!

If you go to the OmniOutliner website it'll detail you all the features in Professional (w/ screenshots too). It was previously mentioned in this thread that you can update w/ a student discount for only $25.

But I am down to sit by the fire and have Jolie detail her experience w/ the Professional features.  :)

Jolie's exams start in a few days and she's buried under Big Books.  Start with the website and let me know if you have other questions. :D

(and Chica -- good to see you too!!  How's it hanging?)

Okay, thanks for your help so far, and good luck with your exams.

I'm great!  Going to Fordham in the fall, so I'm happy about all the Yankees games I'll get to go to!   :)

going to yankee games in september will be fun for you. unfortuantely, to see games after that youll have to take the chinatown bus to boston ;)

This thread is out of control.

Hmm. Barring last-moment bizarre acceptances from Stanford / Harvard (neither of whom has deigned to send me a rejection letter yet), I'll most likely end up at Penn as well, it looks like.

youd pick harvard or stanford over penn!?  what??

kidding of course.

hope to see you on this baord more soon

uh...not saying I hope you get rejected from HS. you know what i mean

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Penn v. NYU
« on: April 12, 2007, 02:02:13 PM »
I had the same choice.

In terms of quality of education and job prospects things are pretty even between the two, NYU may have an edge on the latter in NYC. Though if you looks at the NLJ top firms numbers, Columbia is the only school with a higher percentage than Penn of grads going to biglaw, and it has the edge by a fraction of a percent. Your job prospects will be great either way.

The difference in the way-of-life (I dont want to say 'quality'-- because its not so much of a quality issue) is definitely marked though. Youll have more space, your money will go further (especially with all the great BYOBs), but you can still enjoy the fruits of both NY and DC as theyre both 1.5- 2 hrs away and easy to get to.

Oh Mah Word.

For hopefully near to the last time:

Philadelphia = wunderbar.

Penn = not even remotely in the ghetto. Some of y'all (bonks ahem hem) sound like you haven't even visited. University City is one of the coolest (and most rapidly-gentrifying, if that's your thing) areas, imo, on the whole damn east coast. West Philly doesn't even get gross until you're well into the 40s, and Center City is yuppie-heaven.

North Philly is sketch, and you don't go there. Far West Philly is sketch. South Philly can be sketch in certain areas. Point being, you're not going to go to these places unless you're in search of really authentic restaurants, OTB, or crack.

this girl's got it right. TGGIR

Law School Admissions / Re: Paying Full Price
« on: March 29, 2007, 06:24:42 PM »
At this point, I'm leaning toward turning down Chicago, Columbia, and NYU for full price and taking a near full-tuition scholarship at Cornell, guaranteed over three years.  The other option I am seriously considering is Duke with about a 2/3 tuition scholarship yearly.

I realize most people on this board will probably say I'm crazy, but I think that Cornell and Duke are more than good enough to get me where I need to be.  I want to clerk with a judge and then work for a medium to large size firm in the Southeast or Eastern Midwest.  Because of the relative lack of "prestige" of such firms in the Vault surveys, I don't think the added boost by coming out of CCN will count for much.  Basically, I figure that if I can get where I want to be without any debt, it would be pretty stupid not to take this option...

Thats nice and all. but thats not the point of the thread. this is where all the people who are paying full price come to make each other feel better. start your own gang  ;)

and its working... the thread is starting to take away some of the sting....

hollowman-- you a climber? is the hollowman a reference to the climb at the challenge buttress in big conttonwood?

i am a climber, but i've never been to big cottonwood.  the only time i've been to utah, actually, was to go canyoneering in the san rafael swell, which was freaking awesome.

if i were to choose a route to be named after from those climbs, it probably would have been 'deltoid force.'

nice. yeah-- utah has some amazing routes. for now Ill just boulder on the wharton building.
