Incoming 1Ls / Re: HLS Class of 2010!!!
« on: August 05, 2007, 05:10:58 AM »
Hello all.  Sorry I've been MIA for a while - work's been crazy.  So I've gotta represent the HLS Class of 2011 (so doesn't sound as cool as 2010).  Quick question for all of you who've gone through the off-campus housing search.  I'm going to be living off-campus, with boyfriend and dog.  When would you recommend I start looking for housing (I've never done so way in advance and don't quite know how that works).  Would you recommend I go with a broker (I hear it's pretty common on the East Coast).  Thanks!

I believe this policy has been revised to allow pets if you "register" them.  Check with Affiliated Housing to be certain.

well, that's the ridiculous thing - they're grandfathering in pets registered by august 31 (i.e. if you have one you get to keep it, as long as you register) - but ONLY for people whose leases started before april 30, 2007. and no new pets for those people. i understand that's how grandfathering works, but it's still pretty unfair that they're allowing pets while also disallowing them. pet squatters rights have triumphed i guess.

while it's important to think long and hard about marriage, people find each other at all stages of life.

they loosely say sometime around the 15th for loan info. how exactly do you figure out what terms different lenders will give you based on credit, etc.? there must be some sort of table for this, right? (in terms of interest rate, fees, etc.)

just write lots of stuff, knowing that a lot of it won't really come to anything, but eventually some ideas will come out.

the true-idealist jobs (aclu, etc) can be hard to get straight out - some say the competition is harder than for big firms - but there is always the two-pronged professional growth/transfer later in career and using one's pro bono time and firm-learned litigation skills approach.

ask now. if you want to have them add letters targeted to specific schools they can do that later.
