Law School Admissions / Re: Rejected? Why??

I would strongly suggest you not do so.

Yeah, I would say you shouldn't do that.  I would think, from what you said, that it was your numbers.

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Post December 08 Talk (no material talk)
« on: December 07, 2008, 08:32:53 PM »
Blue, when I took it last December, it was due January 2nd and we got it on December 21. I think you guys will end up getting your scores between Christmas and New Year's.

Are they even open between Christmas and New Years?  My brother took the test yesterday, and I haven't been able to even give him an idea of when to expect anything.

Yeah, they are...someone posted the exact dates somewhere, but they're closed something like from the 24th-26th and the 1st-2nd.

Yeah--I should have read further.  Thanks!

Got the actual acceptance in the mail today... I will agree with everyone else who has already said it- the flash drive is a nice touch.

Congrats.  The Kool-Aid should arrive shortly.   :o

Minority and Non-Traditional Law Students / Re: for us older folk...
« on: November 28, 2008, 08:28:46 AM »
Nothing...it's just that the appeal of having a party centered around a keg was lost on me around the time I was old enough to purchase a keg.  I hear very few adults inquire about when the next kegger is.

I created a new account just so I could post in this thread!  :) I'm just like Connelly - a kegger party is just not something I am interested in any longer. I'm 35 and 10+ years older than everyone else in my class, it seems. Gets a little discouraging sometimes, although I'm very glad to be in law school.

I was being a little bit facetious about the keg parties (though any place that has beer--at least good beer--is a good place to be).  I'm older than you, and I'm significantly older than a lot of my classmates, but I don't let that get in the way of having a good relationship with them.  The similarities are much greater than the differences.

Law School Admissions / Re: REJECTED, ETC. TODAY
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:34:06 AM »
Rejected at ND today.

sorry bud.  you did kinda expect that, though due to your application right?  hopefully therre will be some better luck coming your way soon.  i still wouldn't have thought you were basically an auto-reject at ND with a 170...despite your gpa.  are there any other negative soft factors which could have inhibited your app?

I did kind of expect it because I was careless with the application.

I also have a weird academic history that may have played a role - before I took a year off and then transferred,  I had 12 Ws and a couple Fs.

Still, an outright reject has me reconsidering my choices.  The fact I was not waitlisted appears to be quite damning.

I wasn't outright rejected, but I was deferred at ND with 171 and a 3.98.  They are a little weird about stuff.  Obviously I did just fine--don't worry.

This admittedly makes me feel much better - I was despondent the past couple of days and I was thinking that I might need more apps outside the T30.

No--I would not take anything ND does as an indication of some possible trend.

Job Search / Re: LSAT on resume
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:32:43 AM »
So basically we don't use it because people at our career planning workshops said not, so I suppose if they said to do it we all would.  I'm not denying that it seems to be the way things are done, it's just interesting.  To have the LSAT be as important as it is in law school admissions, but then be told that absent any other data (i.e. law school grades) a 145 is the same as a 180 means either the test lacks any validity and should be weighted far less in admissions or this is simply a social convention (a term which apparently offends some people here, but which seems to be the best description of what's going on).  Again, sorry that questioning orthodoxy rankles some posters.

Are you sure you got a 180?  It's a good thing there wasn't a problem like this on the test, because you're making lots of funky assumptions.

I know the overwhelming conventional wisdom on putting your LSAT score on your resume is HELL NO! but hear me out.  I have a 180 and given that we have no grades or anything to put on our Dec. 1 resumes, would putting this on my resume still be off-putting and a deal breaker or a decent way to differentiate myself until I have actual law school grades to use.

This is proof that LSAT doesn't mean everything.  You got one and still don't know the answers to easy questions.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Sweet jesus don't highlight
« on: November 20, 2008, 08:52:28 PM »
If you can't highlight relevant information the first time through, you have a problem.  I know what my professor is going to be asking about the next day, and I know it will be easier to find it if I highlight and write in the margins.
