Incoming 1Ls / Law School Advice
« on: June 28, 2006, 08:40:26 AM »
I just received an email from two close friends of my family, both of whom are lawyers.  It runs a bit contrary to what I've heard over and over again, and I like it, so I just wanted to share:

"The first year of law school can totally take over your life.  Let it.  It is ever so much more fun and rewarding if you let yourself be totally consumed by it.  Plus, it is one of the few times in your life that you can tell your parents, your friends and whoever else that you're just too busy.  They'll understand and if they don't they'll get over it.  Let yourself be immersed in the experience.

We are envious.  Have fun."

General Off-Topic Board / The Facebook: Weird Connections
« on: April 19, 2006, 01:52:36 PM »
Does it seem to anybody else that the facebook really breeds strange connections?

I just got friended by a guy who I cordially loathed in debate in high school (due largely to his incescent jokes about his fear that the one gay kid on the debate team planned to anally rape him).

Anybody else have funny "friends" on their facebook profile?

And how do you feel about it now?

Mine makes me feel like I've come full circle.  I posted to ask if it was too limiting to only apply to schools in my area, and now that I'm making my decision, staying in my area is still the biggest knowable factor in my decision, and I still want to stay put.   :D

Choosing the Right Law School / Harvard v. RTK
« on: March 25, 2006, 12:24:10 PM »
I'm in the last stages of decision making, and I was hoping I could get some input from all you awesome and thoughtful folks.

If I don't get the Root Tilden Kern scholarship I'm going to Harvard, because I'd like to clerk, have a significant preference for Boston over NYC, and have generally warmer feelings about the people (admittees, current students, and admins/profs) I spoke with at the Harvard admit day than those I met at the NYU admit day.

If I got the Root-Tilden-Kern tho, I'm not sure.  I can't really figure out how big a difference the money makes, considering the LRAP and all, but the program as a whole does seem like a good thing.

Any opinions?

Choosing the Right Law School / When Do You Expect to Be Decided?
« on: March 16, 2006, 07:28:42 AM »
On what date does logic suggest you'll have made your decision.

I'm going to have to decide by April 11th (the earliest I could have to make a decision of the RTK was offered, so I'll need to know what I'd say by then).  If Yale hasn't gotten back to me by then, @#!* 'em.
