Choosing the Right Law School / Cornell Law and DC Placement
« on: May 23, 2008, 08:49:11 AM »
I recently decided to go to Cornell over GW law. The deciding factor was the fact that Cornell gave me over $100,000 in need based money. I already know that I want to be in DC after graduation and it seemed like GW would have been safer for me since it is in DC but I am also interested in government work so the lighter debt load is in my best interest.

Though I am interested in gov't work, I haven't ruled out Biglaw. I have been doing some research on Cornell and going on websites for some firms in DC. Most seem to have a substantial number of G-Town and GW grads (and of course grads from the top 4 law schools) but not very many Cornell grads. My concern is how hard it would be to break into the DC market from Cornell. I've spoken to some current Cornell law students who said that it isn't extremely difficult. Does anyone know whether or not Cornell placement in DC doesn't seem as high because Cornell grads choose not to go to DC or because DC is a harder market for Cornell grads to break into?

Sorry if there has been any other threads about this :)

Incoming 1Ls / GWU Class of 2011 (or just thinking about it)
« on: February 18, 2008, 08:11:31 AM »
Anybody else seriously considering attending GW in the fall? I'm still waiting on quite a few decisions but if nothing else goes my way this is where I'll be in the fall. Seems like GW perspectives are rare this cycle...

Choosing the Right Law School / Texas v GWU
« on: February 11, 2008, 08:22:03 AM »
I'm weighing my options between these two schools and would love to hear some other opinions. I want to do government work in DC after I graduate so GW seems like the obvious choice. But if it would be possible for me to break into the market from Texas, I wouldn't mind saving the money. What do you guys think?

Also let's throw Vandy into the mix because I'm considering them as well.

Law School Admissions / PWL @ G-Twon

I was reading some old threads about the GULC waitlist and they referred to a general waitlist, a preferred waitlist and some kind of preferred preferred waitlist. I have never heard of the preferred preferred waitlist. I was placed on the preferred waitlist  Have there been different versions of the preferred waitlist letter floating around this year? This is the one I received.

"The committee on Admissions has reviewed your application and has placed your name on our Preferred Waiting List.

Applicants on the Preferred Waiting List are among those we would like to include in our first year class. These applicants have the strongest credentials of all waiting list candidates and, as a result, receive priority consideration if spaces become available. Offers of admission to waiting list candidates may be made up until registration day in August.

Although the number varies from year to year, typically fifty places open for waiting list candidates, some as late as registration day. Should a decision to admit you be made earlier, however, we will contact you right away. Please be advised that applicants on the Preferred Waiting List are not ranked.

We realize that your circumstances may change in the coming months. An e-mail will be sent to you in May asking you to reconfirm your interest and update your contact information. Meanwhile, please update us on any approaching deadlines you may be facing. If you do not wish to have your application remain under consideration, please e-mail us at [email protected]. On behalf of the Committee, we appreciate your patience and continued interest in Georgetown."

I'm not sure if anyone asked this already or not so forgive me if they have.

For those of you that were deferred, are you going to write the optional 2 page essay? Are there any topics in particular that you are staying away from? I have absolutely no idea what to write on and I was kind of looking for some ideas....

General Off-Topic Board / ADVICE PLEASE....
« on: November 11, 2006, 06:27:51 PM »
Hey everybody. I am not currently a law student but I am in a relationship with one and I need some advice. I understand that being a law student is very time consuming. But am I wrong to expect that he spend some time with me as well. When do you draw the line between someone that is just too busy and someone that just doesn't care enough about you to make you a priority as well? I am afraid that my SO is the latter. Anybody else been through a similar situation and have any advice on how I should deal??
