I applied to law school straight out of undergrad five years ago and got some great recommendations from professors. I got in, but chose to wait a few years. I'll be applying this fall for 2011, but unfortunately I don't keep in touch with the professors anymore. I can get some great recs from my current employer (a top law firm) but I'm not sure that I'll be able to get any new ones from my old profs. Is it okay (good, okay, utterly horrible?) to use letters of rec that professors wrote in 2006?

Thanks so much for your help!

Choosing the Right Law School / 163/3.4 - GW PT?

Choosing the Right Law School / Applying Part-Time Right Now?
« on: January 11, 2010, 05:00:08 PM »
Hi All,

I currently work in a nice job at a big law firm in DC and am considering applying for GW's part-time program. My GPA/LSAT are 3.4/163 (graduated undergrad in '06) and my resume - not to sound like a male private part - is pretty darn good. First, is it too late in the cycle to have a realistic shot? Second, would going part-time in any way hamper my job search ability afterward? Is there a general downside to part-time law besides balancing? I'd be thrilled to hear any and all advice anyone would have.

Thanks much!

Is it easy to find jobs in NY or DC coming out of: UNC, Emory, Boston U?

I fear the answer is no.

Choosing the Right Law School / Does Work Experience Matter?
« on: January 18, 2008, 01:47:38 PM »
After undergrad, I worked in a very prestigious internship and am currently working at a paralegal in one of the top firms. Will this matter at all to an admissions committee or will they judge purely based on numbers?

Do law schools generally allow Apple laptops? Are there any necessary specs?

Choosing the Right Law School / Applying Again
« on: September 11, 2007, 12:57:59 PM »
Hi all, I applied to law school back in '05/06 and was pleased with where I got in. 3.47/163 and I got into Emory, GW part time, and got waitlisted at BU and Wash U. I decided not to go right out of school and now I am looking to apply for 08/09 after interning at the White House and then working at a top DC firm as a paralegal. I plan to take the LSAT again but if my scores don't change drastically from last time, can I expect similar results or would I get a bump up from my experiences? Or have the schools improved since then? Thanks for any insight!

Law School Admissions / Letters of Recommendation
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:05:26 AM »
Does it matter what kind of professor a rec letter is from? If the individual is a lecturer or visiting professor, does that carry less weight than a tenured prof?

Also, what is the general train of thought regarding who writes the letters? I've heard it's better to have more from professors than from bosses. True? And how many letters are recommended?

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

Choosing the Right Law School / Taking the LSAT twice

Do all schools average the two scores? Which schools don't do this?

Can you apply to other schools while deferred by one?
