Does UCLA take diversity statements / optional essay?

I haven't been able to find anything in their application instructions that says they do.  Confirm / Deny?

Thanks.

Law School Admissions / Subprime loans, part 2: The college edition

How concerned are you about taking on a huge amount of student loan debt?  To be honest I've had a mindset similar to the one this article portrays:  I figured it's a large amount of debt, but I'll be attending a top law school and will easily find a job in patent law making 120-160k a year.  Paying them back shouldn't be hard...

With the credit market looking so bleak, should I/you/we be more worried about taking on 100-200k in student loans?  Should I highly consider more money to somewhere like GW as apposed to sticker at a mid t14 or even low t14?

Law School Admissions / Lack of EC's addenda?
« on: September 12, 2008, 04:13:06 PM »
I've started filling out applications and it's a downer to see the "extracurricular, community, and professional activities" section blank.  I wasn't an active member of my university and haven't really done any volunteer work.  Does anyone do an addenda explaining why their app is so lacking in the EC department?  I imagine it would consist mainly of explanation of how it wasn't a priority as an undergrad, but I've matured and realized how much I missed out on by not being a part of the community.  Really it's what I most regret about my undergrad.

Is it better to try and come up with some things I half participated in, or just accept the blank for what it is?  My feelings have been to just accept the blank and hope they value other aspects of my app, like 2 years of post-grad work experience.

Law School Admissions / minor traffic violations?
« on: August 14, 2008, 05:47:24 PM »
Where do you draw the line on what is a minor traffic violation?  Driving on suspended license?  Wreckless?

I actually have a driving on a suspended license ticket, it was all a large misunderstanding stemming from not having my most recent proof of insurance card when I got pulled over for a tail light being out.  Do they expect me to explain this on my app or does it fall under "minor traffic violation?"

Law School Admissions / Practice Area
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:50:30 PM »
Out of curiosity, do schools care what area you intend to practice in?  I realize that many have no idea and many of the ones who "think" they do end up changing their mind.  I'm leaving a career in software to do patent law and the chances of me changing my mind in school are pretty slim.  I figure schools probably don't care, but I'm curious if anyone has heard otherwise.
