Law School Admissions / Any Chance at UVA?
« on: October 20, 2009, 11:09:21 AM »
I had swine flu when I took the LSAT, and got a 163 (I'd been averaging close to 170 on practice tests). I've got a 3.6 gpa, went to a top 25 college, strong recs, and two years work experience. I also live in Virginia. I'm happy to apply Early Decision, but am not sure if my numbers are too low to put me totally out of consideration even with ED. Thoughts?

They've been making decisions for ED incredibly quickly, so I'd go ahead and send it in.

Law School Admissions / Common Information Form
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:40:22 AM »
Is the common information form itself sent to schools, or is that just a tool to help you fill out applications? I'm trying to figure out if I can submit an application before completely filling out the Common Information Form, and was confused by the LSAC website on that point. Thanks!

I woke up with the flu on Tuesday. I've done nothing except drink tea/soup, sleep, and relax, and yet I'm still sick. This is gonna be fun....

Law School Admissions / Getting Applications in Early
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:10:51 AM »
Hey folks--

I'm taking the Sept 26th LSAT. Is there value to having the rest of my application completed before then (for example, will it help with rolling admissions), or since they won't consider it complete until they have the LSAT scores, does it not matter if my applications are sent before late October?

Also, when do applications typically become available through LSAC? Several have said they'd be available Aug 15, but aren't accessible yet.

Thanks!

Law School Admissions / 3.6 gpa, 170ish LSAT-- target schools?
« on: August 10, 2009, 08:54:05 AM »
Hey everyone--

I'm just getting started on the application process, am taking the LSAT in Sept so I don't have a real score at this point. However, I've taken several full length tests (after doing a prep course) and am averaging 170. I hope to improve slightly over the next several weeks, but using that as a guideline and my 3.6 UGPA (LSDAS calculated) I am trying to figure out what schools would be reach/good/safeties. I went to a top 25 small liberal arts college, majored in poli sci and econ.

I've got two years of relevant work experience at a well known think tank, plus several internships and a fellowship that I've done. I've got really solid LORs (4) and am working on a personal statement now. Thanks for your help!

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Prep course or no prep course?

Look around the board, you'll definitely find posts arguing either for or against courses (both in general, and specific courses).  Honestly, what will matter most is if you put in the time and dedication to do well and have appropriate study materials.
