Title: Getting a name change
Post by: ttiwed on July 16, 2004, 02:13:33 PM
well folks, what you see to the left is my real name. in case you guys ever wondered what ttiwed meant, there's your answer.

anyways, i am seriously considering getting a name change. ever since i was in kindergarten, i've hated my name. itís so annoying how every time i meet someone new and tell them my name, they go, "what? how do you say that? are you french?" oh and having my nickname be DO IT and DUET throughout high school wasn't exactly a picnic either. when i go to restaurants and the host asks to take down my name for the wait, i just tell them "john," cause i'm too lazy to spell it out.

since i'm going to law school next year, most likely out of state, i will be starting a new life. therefore, i was thinking that maybe this is a good time to have my name legally changed. it won't be a drastic change like "eugene" or anything. i don't want my friends and fam to be weirded out and feel like i'm a totally different person with a radically different name.

i don't think iím forfeiting my identity by changing my name though. the way i see it, a name change is like getting a boob job. just a minor alteration. Itís not like i'm going under the knife for a "the swan" style makeover.

i was thinking maybe dwight or another D name. what do you guys think? and what are some ramifications for getting a name legally changed? i would imagine it would be quite a hassle.

I voted for keeping your name.  It's unique, and I think it'll be cool to be a lawyer named Dewitt.  I don't know why, but it would be.  :)

It does seem like a pain in the ass to change your name, but only at the beginning.  You have to notify banks, social security, credit cards, utilities, school/loans, etc.  Then every time you fill out a form or application, you have to fill out the part about other names you've had...

Just say John when you go to restaurants and stuff.

see, that doesn't help at all. when i go to restaurants, the host will still ask me how to spell that.

some girls have already dubbed that nickname upon me. i hate it. what is your real name lexy?

how about ittdew instead? i don't like one syllabal names.

thanks for the support. but dewitt esquire doesn't really flow all that well. sounds like a name for a sexual position.

actually, its pronounced more like De Witt.

"well if false advertising makes me lame, then just call me bob sagat."

With witty remarks like that, you really shouldn't change your name from deWITt.  It's just so appropriate...

Dewitt is your first name, right?  So it wouldn't be "Dewitt, Esquire."  You'd still have a last name.  Unless this is a Cher thing...  Do you have a middle name?  Maybe you could go by that, like F. Lee Bailey.  That's a pretty dated example; let me think of another.  L. Ron Hubbard?  J. Crew?  Ha ha.

I think Dewitt is a great name! It makes u sound likse such a little tough guy ( ???) if ur gonna change ur name, change it to skimendrick, or lotharg or thor or something cool like that. So does this mean ur last name is omorpmm??

Dewitt is not at all a bad name.  At least people can pronounce it.  My first name is Ksenia, but in Russia you would only use that either in your papers or when you get old.  It's considered much too formal for everyday use.  So, the nickname for Ksenia is Ksusha, so that's what I'd called myself all my life prior to coming to the States.  I didn't want to use Ksenia here, because although it is easier to pronounce, I still felt like an old lady every time someone called me that.  So I stuck with Ksusha.  Well, considering the fact that English doesn't have a phonetic "ks" combination at the beginning of ANY word, folks liked to call me Kuh-susha, which I also hated.  So my mom insisted I make the K silent.  This didn't go over well in the third grade when my classmates quickly discovered the similarity between Susha and Sushi.  I still have no idea what I will use when I am an attorney.  (Middle name isn't an option, it's Alexandrovna). :-\

alexandra. lexy is one of (counts on fingers...takes off shoes...) 11 or 12 nicknames.

I've found that all the famous lawyers have unique names... I'd keep De-Witt... It's not that hard to spell if you put enough emphasis on the "W"

don't change ur name, man... unless you change it to "the dude"

no way! i would hate to be a john or a mike or... heaven forbid... a MATT. every other guy in america is a MATT.

but why couldn't i have been like a COOPER or an ANDERSON? or better yet have my full name be COOPER ANDERSON like that clean cut, handsome CNN reporter. that dude has looks and a cool name.

this reminds me of that one episode of the simpsons where homer changed his named to max power.  :D

ksenia eh? for some reason i'm now thinking russian dominatrix.

yup, its my first name. it would actually be Dewitt (blank), esq.

if i go with the first name initial idea, i would be D. Clearwell (blank). that doesn't flow at all either.

(as you all probably know by now, my parents were smoking the "dsong rock" when they named me)

I think Dewitt is a great name! It makes u sound likse such a little tough guy ( ???) if ur gonna change ur name, change it to skimendrick, or lotharg or thor or something cool like that. So does this mean ur last name is omorpmm??

little tough guy? why little? and why tough? actually, i like lotharg. if this was the stone age and i was a barbarian living in the hills, i would change it to lotharg in a second.

which famous lawyers have unique names? the highest attorney in the US is named john and the highest judge is named william. not all that unique ifyou ask me.

lol! i thought you might have beef with that-it's cuz some people have names that they either need to grow into, or that they eventually grow out of. For example, Timmy is an appropriate name for a 3 year old. But a 40 year old named Timmy doesn't sound right. Same with Francine. yes, it makes sense that an 88 year old grandma has that name but it doesn't work for a 20 year old. So i just picture you as a little ankle biter-about 2 or so-being called Dewitt, and its cute! it sounds like a name for a grown mature man, that's why its so funny to picture u as a little guy with a big name.  :-*

Isn't there an episode of Seinfeld where George wants to change his name?  Definitely the episode of Friends where Chandler wants to change his.  Dewitt, maybe you should watch those for inspiration, since the moral of the story in both cases was that their own name worked best :)

I think you should call yourself Thor.  That way, you can walk into a restaurant and roar,"I am Thor, God of Thunder.  I desire a table."  It's a nice, strong, and unique name.  Plus, it was featured as a skit on Sesame Street.

i just saw a stand-up talking about how he and his brother were in kindergarten, sam schneider and lou schneider, and how they had to go around with these old-man names, when clearly there were 2 elderly jewish guys waiting in line at the naming bureau going "look, i'm timmy and this is joey and we're ready for our big-boy names!"

Dewitt.  You would be crazy to change your name.  It is sooo cute!  i agree that it is an absolutely amazing name for an attorney.  just get a nickname.  dwight is cool, but dewitt is a cool name and it will work.  you just have to know how to pull it off. especially with the ladies.

No shortage of interesting facts about people in this thread.

Dude, you kinda look like a pretty boy (no offense) in your avatar. Perhaps you would like your name to match your charming appearance and world view, well, look no farther than "Dewitt".  That *&^% is dope dude. And on top of that, clearwell, Jesus H. Christ I couldn't think of a better name for an attorney (other than Dewitt).

Clearwell.  The well is only the foundation of civilization man, one of the most evocative words/concepts in any language! On top of that you're blessed with a "CLEAR" well, couldn't get any better than that.

What a F'ing guy, has two bomb names, and he wants to change 'em. Looser!

Dewitt Clearwell, THE BOMB.

And just so you know, very few people can spell my first name, and fewer can spell my last name. So I always gotta spell that *&^% out, and it is a pain in the ass, nonetheless that's the price you have to pay for the glory.

that's perfect... this is your chance to be a bad boy... instead of apologizing and fretting over what she thinks, you should've just said "yea, of course i think i'm hot *&^%. just look at me. skank ass ho"... she'd be all over you just wanting some approval.

if it backfires, then oh well... you flew too close to the sun on cardboard wings...

lol, i remember, u bastard.  :-* Dude, you will NEVER get the friends with benefits action from her. The only way you get that with the most minimal chance of the chick becoming psycho is by banging a friend and working it that way. It sounds like she's got some psycho mentality about her already by saying that about you being hot *&^%. Wtf does that say about her? just because ur not following her around, sniffin her ass like the mindless feminine hygiene product she wants you to be, u suddenly have an attitude problem? By maintaining a friendship role-which is what she wanted outta u (omg ttiewedmmpromodewitt ur my best friend forever *&^%-u remember that?) now she insults you for doing just that. THIS IS WHAT SHE WANTS AND WHAT YOU WILL NOT GIVE HER (i hope for ur sake): She's insecure and wants your attention. She needs to know that if she wanted you back, she could have you back at the drop of a hat. But once she knows that she could have you back, she won't want you back. And she'll only treat you like *&^% and be a female dog. Right now she feels like she doesn't have the control over your emotions that she wants, SO DON'T GIVE IT TO HER! She's being selfish and she's certainly not looking out for your best interests-so she really cares much more about herself than her professed consideration for your feelings. Keep ur stance, that's where u need to be. And do whatever good looking chicks come ur way. But chances are this chick is gettin sorta crazy about the fact that u seem somewhat unattainable now, so chances are she's gonna wanna @#!* you-female version of marking territory. Although it would be much better for you if u banged other chicks, if u find urself in the situation where u can hit it if you want to (and u want to) you gotta do it, and get out. Don't get sucked into the whole relationshippy talk she'll start, or how much she loves u/wants u back. DON'T EVEN TALK ABOUT UR FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER! ur only concern should be getting laid and getting out, cuz she's proven that she is not looking out for your best interests. SO why the @#!* should you look out for hers? Of course if u do this it'll be a lot harder to scrape that *&^% off the bottom of ur shoe, so u gotta decide if its worth having to deal with more of her antics. Hopefully ull find some better ass than that so you won't have to deal with that nonsense. But, u know, if u give in, and u gotta do her, be sure to give her a good donkey punchin' or something similar, ya know, let her know where her place is.  :-*

Okay, I'll punch anyone who laughs, but my real name is Harimaya.  It means "illusion of the lord" in Sanskrit.  I was teased incessantly throughout primary school and dubbed "Hairymaya" which is ironic because I assure you that I am not in the least bit hairy.

wait a min. your name is harimaya? aren't you hk? i'm confused...

jew-lo, remember a couple weeks ago when you answered my ex gf problems? well i took your advice and i've been keeping my distance from her but i ran into her at a bar on friday. she says to me, "so you think you're hot *&^% now huh?" this "upper hand" stance that i've been trying to maintain is stymieing my chances of getting any freinds with benefits action. what are your suggestions, oh goodess of relationships and sex?

lol, i remember, u bastard.  :-* Dude, you will NEVER get the friends with benefits action from her. The only way you get that with the most minimal chance of the chick becoming psycho is by banging a friend and working it that way. You'll never turn what was a serious relationship into a friends with beny's thing because she will go psycho on yor ass. It sounds like she's got some psycho mentality about her already by saying that about you being hot *&^%. Wtf does that say about her? just because ur not following her around, sniffin her ass like the mindless feminine hygiene product she wants you to be, u suddenly have an attitude problem? I have been on this board for while, and I wondered why everyone seemed fixated on Jew-Lo.  NOW I understand.  Immeasurable wisdom and she's hot.  She is a goddess.

My last name is Littlejohn, and a cruel older girl christened me "tiny toilet" in elementary school.

Still in therapy.

But I can convince people that I'm Native American, which is a plus.

lol, it's not that i don't care. I DO! lol, it's just that i'm the type of person who sees someone eat *&^%, and my first inclination is to point and laugh, and THEN to be like, oh, oh yeah, are you ok? lol, And i expect it to be the same when i fall on my ass. I mean, even if i'm legitimately hurt, i'm laughing my ass off cuz it's funny, and I expect everyone else to be laughing too. Those moments are priceless! We can deal with the actual injuries and all that other *&^% later.

That's okay with me.  That means I can have four bf's.  So it's gonna be you, Ginatio, Burning Sands (I haven't asked him yet, but...), and I'm taking applications for the fourth position.
