Title: 147 LSAT, laughing it's so bad....will i ever get in anywhere?
Post by: 61283 on July 05, 2004, 09:13:19 AM
Hi all,

So, got my LSAT score back and it's, yes.....a 147. Believe it. It's so bad, I started laughing.  I do have a 3.6 GPA from a competitive university, though. Will I ever get in ANYWHERE? It's so bad, I'm sure law schools will take one look at it and laugh.

That just shows you how much of a worthless pos that calculator is... he has a better shot of getting into Harvard at 8% with that low LSAT than any other school on there... riiiight

You have a good chance at Ave Maria University School of Law.  They have money and are up and coming.  I would go there.  In five years it will look like you went to a top-50 school :)

take a prep course and retake it if you are really serious about studying law.   :)

I agree that you should try retaking the test.  In the event that you do not see a significant increase in your score, apply to Stetson.  It favors GPA and has a great regional reputation in Florida.

I agree that you should take it over. I wound up raising my score 8 points -- high enough that most schools would throw out the lower score. Even if you were able to raise your score 5 points, that'd bring you up to a 152 and you'd have a lot more options.

With that being said, I pulled out my handy dandy Cahnce Calculator (I made it on excel using the formulas and stats from lsac.org -- it's great!) and plugged in your numbers. It looks like you can count Texas Southern as a safety but have very good shots at many t3 and t4 schools. In the top 100, it looks like you have a shot at Arkansas-Fayetteville, Denver, Indiana-Indianopolis, Missouri-Kansas City, Toledo, and Seattle. I hope that helps a little bit.

I scored the same as you and you can tell by my screen name where I'm going to school.  Just look at the numbers that you have, look at the schools, and see if they fit.  In my case, they did. My GPA was significantly higher than yours( almost 4.0), but law school is a big numbers game.  My best advice to you is to apply early.  And, if you are still in undergrad, I would not retake the LSAT.  It has been my experience that the October LSAT falls right in the middle of midterms - which does not lessen the stress of the test.  Anyways, good luck.

Hey SMUJD, can you tell me a bit about the school?  I'm really interested in SMU, but I haven't be able to visit with any admission councelors or sit in on a class.  I've only been able to visit the school and look at the buildings, which are nice.

Thanks and Gig 'Em,
Jason

You think you did bad!  I got a 147 and my GPA is a 3.00.  I am hoping to get into the University of Baltimore or the University of the district of columbia.  Does anyone think i have a chance with these numbers?

You have a chance at either. You have a better chance at University of DC because your numbers are closer to their 75%, as opposed to University of Baltimore where you are at the 25%.

Good luck to you!

Wow, a lot of people are posting now who have LSAT scores lower than 170, 160!  Cool, my kind of people.

smujd2007,
Did you have anything special in your application? I am just curious because I have about the same stats and was only waitlisted last year. I am retaking the LSAT this year, but the councilor at SMU bascially told me I should just go to a low-tier school and transfer into SMU (like retaking the test wouldnt help my chances  :-[)
