NO!  It's not just about the top 20...Besides NW(9) and UM(9), the Big Ten has several excellent schools: Minnesota(22), Illinois(27), Iowa(27),  Ohio State(32), Indiana-B(36) and Wisconsin(36), and also some solid T2's such as Indiana-I(68) and Penn State(77).  Michigan State is the only one that's not so good, but even it is an upper tier 3 school in the new rankings.

I didn't count, but I'm guessing 8 out of the top 36 is not matched by any other conference.

True. If it's top 40 or so, Big Ten probably is the winner.

Don't forget UW at 30th and UA at 38th for the Pac-10.  Going all the way to the top 100, we find ASU at 52nd and Oregon at 82nd.

A better comparison might be to add up the total point scores of the schools.

You're all missing Georgetown in the Big East.

I'm surprised that no one wants to consider the "Nerdy Nine" aka the University Athletic Association: NYU, Chicago, WashU, Emory, Case Western, and its non-law school members (Brandeis, Rochester, and Carnigie Melon).

Before someone bothers to count and complain that there's only 8 schools listed, here's the reason: Johns Hopkins left the league.

Pac-10, by far.

Pac-10
Stanford      2
Berkeley      6
UCLA         16
USC          18
Washington   30
Arizona      38
ASU          52
Oregon       82

Avg          30.5 (244/8)

Big-10
Michigan      9
Northwestern  9
Minnesota    22
Iowa         27
UIUC         27
OSU          32
IU-B         36
Wisconsin    36
Penn State   77
MSU         100+

Like I said (and this is being generous since Michigan State should have more than 100 points counted against it)...

Schools in T14:

Pac 10, 2: Boalt, Stanford
Big 10, 3: Michigan, Northwestern, Penn St.
Ivy, 4: Yale, Harvard, Cornell, Columbia

Little known fact: there is a difference between the University of Pennsylvania (aka. UPenn or Penn) and Penn State. "Penn" IS an Ivy league that is in the T10. Penn State is a Big Ten that is nowhere close, it might be T100. There are much better Big ten schools that should be considered... But that said... Pac 10 kicks ass! Go Bears!

Lol, I find it amusing how many American's don't realise that Penn is Ivy. Then again, you are the country that believe that Adam and Eve, and George Bush are human beings.

and Pac-10 = fail because they don't have enough law schools. You add 100+ for every school that doesn't even have a law school? Big 10 easy.

In the Big Ten you have some great law schools like Michigan, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa; and law solid schools like Ohio State. But then you have the third-tier Michigan State, though it looks poised to move into the second tier, and Penn State, with its low academic reputation score relative to others in its tier and the lowest bar passage rate in the state. Using football conferences to lump top law schools in with weak ones? Makes no sense.
