Title: We're next! So who is taking in June?
Post by: The Stranger on February 02, 2008, 10:30:28 PM
I am just wanting to get a feel for who is taking the LSAT on the 16th of June. I'll be consistently posting on here all the way up to the test date, so if anyone would like to follow a PT schedule with me then let me know. I am planning on taking all of them so it would be nice to have someone to discuss a few of them with. I hope to hear from you all!

I'm taking it in June. I'm only taking 2 tests before March 31st (to give me some time to study the bibles) then my third PT which begins my course. I plan to go through 9 more before the actual.

I've never taken the June test before; I was looking at a  syllabus on someone's site (don't remember). And noticed that they had the actual scheduled for 12:30. Is it in the afternoon?

Hey, good luck with your test score, but I would be happy if you were to join the club. Are you planning on going to law school in the Fall of 08?

Thanks! No, I'm actually postponing for at least a year. I'm looking for post-graduation jobs at law firms, so depending on the firm I work for, I may postpone for 1 or 2 years. I just really want to get this test over and done with and not have to study for it when I have an actual job. When I got home yesterday, I was so frustrated I wanted immediately to go back to studying! lol. But, who knows? Maybe the excitement and fun of graduating will postpone the exam for me, yet again... My life has no room for the LSAT. ;)

Hey MHLM, I've seen some of your posts on here. Would you be willing to start taking the PTs by mid-March? Ex. If I were to say that I am taking PT #50 on Saturday March 15th at 1:30 then would you be able to get the same test and take it? I really want to discuss as many of the PTs as possible with other people. I assume that many other people will be taking PT#50 at some point, so we might as well take them together. Who knows, maybe we can have awesome discussion like we saw yesterday between the Feb. takers.

I can't honestly say that I know how I did.  That test was hard, but it was good to find out that the game section that I completely screwed up on might have been the experimental. I ran out of time on one of the LR sections and had to guess on about 3 or 4, hopefully I got the other ones right but I really don't know.  I didn't think RC was too bad but with all the people complaining about it on here, I'm now wondering if I did something wrong.  Anyway, the silver lining in all this is that I already got accepted into two of the schools I really wanted. I hope schools don't rescind people's acceptances over a lower score.  I thought about canceling but I don't know, still thinking.

I already have a schedule kind of mapped out, but I'd definitely be willing to discuss PrepTests, even if we don't happen to take them on the exact same date. What does your rough schedule look like? How many PTs are you planning to take?

Sure...I'm not sure of the numbers of the the practice tests, but before 3/31, I will have taken LSATs from Sept 07 and  June 07.

I'm going to take Sep07 on 2/16/08 and Jun07 on 3/8/08.

Yes, I have a tentative schedule mapped out as well, but I am certainly able to break it. Just message me if you are taking a test and I'll see if I can take it with you. Seriously, if someone else is taking the test on a certain date and time then I'll feel obligated to take the test. I feel like it would be kind of be like the real thing.

Okay, I will take the Jun07 test with you on 3/8/08. I am planning on taking it at 1:30 central time. Right now I am spending about three hours with the LR and LG Bibles six days a week. The real reason why I do not want to take the test on 2/16/08 is because I may not have the test by then. I guess that really isn't a excuse. Haha

If you guys are serious about taking the tests together or discussing them on different days or whatever, then it might help if you know a little bit about me. Feel free to add me to your friends list on Facebook if you have a profile. My name in Jameson Ryley, and I am a graduate from the U of Iowa. Hope to see you there.

K. I'm about to add you.

I think its admirable that you're going 100%. go for the 180. I've struggled a lot with the test thus far, so I'm looking to completely deconstruct and reconstruct.

I'd be elated to hear about some of your best strategies.

No, I hope you did not assume that I am going for a 180. I am just going to put in as much effort as possible. Haha, my best score thus far is a 164 so I doubt you'll care much for my current strategies. Hopefully we can learn to defeat this test together.

I'm already signed up for June (didn't want to risk not getting a space in the most perfect testing center ev-ah.)

After reading the latest bad news on a pending student loan crisis, I have to say, I'm very glad I decided to put off for a year.  Having a year or two tuition in the bank means I only have to worry about getting into law school, not funding it.

Defeat it huh?  That would be a moment to behold.  I think a better view would be coming out ahead after a good fight with it.  You know, not to many bruises or that much blood loss.

Bt and MBW in Baja, I realize you have both probably been working really hard on your prep thus far, but would you like to take a few PTs roughly at the same time to discuss them with me? I am getting a group together, and we are taking the Sept. 2007 test on the first Saturday in March. Hope to hear from you!

No problem bt. I have taken over twenty-five PTs myself but I figure it cannot hurt to retake those and finish the others. My average score right now falls in the 158-163 band. Hopefully we can learn something from each other. I am going through the Powerscore Bibles and I just ordered the LSAC SuperPrep, so I will not start taking the PTs until the first Saturday in March. Do you have the Sept. 2007 test? That is the first one I intend to take.

Hey, go to the link that I posted and say hello on that board. I am trying to organize things over there and I have posted more information. This may become a logistical nightmare for me, but I know that Jeffort will help me out. By the way, I am not the leader of this group; I am just the one trying to get this started. I say this because we need to all come together to make a schedule. We are taking PT 52 on the weekend of March 7th-9th. So please go to LSAC and make the purchase. Maybe say hello on the lsatdiscussion board if you want to join the study group. It is encouraging to see such positive responses. I will not be back on until later tonight.

Hey guys, just got around to reading this thread today.

I set up a live chat thing that appears at the very bottom of my site for a live chat room called lsatchat.  I can also set up private invitation only rooms, set up moderator rights for either type, etc.  Ignore the 'chat' button on the toolbar of my board when you are logged in with a user account.  Everywhere chat changed their software and I need to remove that from my php.

I can also set-up a private board category on my board that is invitation/request only that I are anyone I approve (Like  Stranger) can add user accounts on my board to in order to keep it under control and keep out random idiots / riff raff.  Although I would love to have Julie pop in here and there!  lol

The board category combined with live chats seems to be the best way to go to help it work.  The board category can be used for posting schedules, agendas, plans, questions and issues you want to discuss in advance, follow ups, etc. that participants can review and post in whenever they have time, whereas the chatroom thing is good for live meetings and active discussions during times when people get together to go over things.  A combination/ mix of the two methods seems good since different people have different schedules with work and time zones and all that and cannot always get together at the same time.

This way, nobody has to waste a ton of time trying to coordinate it all and keep notifying people of things instead of being able to study.  Two simple places to remember to go and check to see what's going on.  It will only work if people participate actively though.  I trying to make it as easy as possible and safe for everyone that wants to do it.

A good group of people did a thing like that with a private board category for application materials at the end of last year and it went really well.  Google bots don't see it or archive it, the public can't see it, etc.

I will say right up front, only serious people should consider even requesting to be added once I get it all set-up.  Not trying to be a male private part or anything, but even with the applications thing, some people that requested access failed to simply even respond to basic questions to get added and/or did not even read the very clear explanation of what to do before requesting to be added.  (like registering a user account and then telling me the frigging user name, and then later complained that they had not been added.  No soup for you!)  lol

I hope everyone sees this. I'll post it on LSAT Discussion as well. I feel the idea of a private discussion board would be the best. I am not saying we would not use the live chat, but I feel I would be more comfortable just replying to other peoples posts.

The only problem right now is that I cannot make a schedule until I know which tests everyone owns or will own. I have a steady job that pays crap but I am planing on buying all of them in the near future. I have all of the Actual Next 10 Pt books, and PT 53 and I just bought 52 today. What does everyone think? I mean, I guess I could just schedule 10-12 tests for certain weekends and everyone could just go out and buy them according to the schedule. Does that work for everybody? I am not going to make this into a big deal; I am just needing a little feedback. I don't want to pose as the leader and creator of this group because I think it should be run by everyone participating.

-Haha, I never exclude Julie and her wombat. :D

No, I'm really in for June.
What the deuce? My I ask why? Is Northwestern not good enough for you Earlcat?

lol... NU made me an offer I couldn't refuse...  Unless Stanford comes begging (yeah right), I'm settled.
I'm mostly doing it for my tutoring gig.  I think I can post a higher score which means better advertising.  :D

Seriously, though.  I prepped with books, and I even got a really good score, but I had to really earn it.  I was lucky my actual score was near the top of my preptest scoring range too.  Since I've now learned what gets taught in a good class and what a good instructor can do for you (like give specific, personalized feedback on things you didn't even know you did wrong), I wish I had prepped with someone and I recommend it to everyone.  When I trained to teach LSAT, and learned how to work things properly, it was like the fog lifted.

I've done practically nothing but work with LSAT for the past two years, and I really wish I had someone like that to give me advice when I was first studying.  I would have scored higher, and likely earned a lot more scholarship money.

If you are shooting for a 180 then I want you in our study group. Well, really I just want you in the group anyways because I like to learn from the best of the best.

Ha, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago but I know very little about Evanston. Have you visited yet?

I haven't read everything, so maybe this was brought up already, but just in case, I think the PrepTests should be done in order with later tests done later.  Maybe one a week on a schedule with PT-53 the weekend before or something like that.

Also, any word on if/when the RC Bible is coming out?

The law school is actually in downtown Chicago.  I've been to Chicago, but I haven't gotten to visit the school yet.  I'll be at the admitted students weekend in April to visit for the first time.

I would definitely be willing to take them in order, but I figured we would take a more recent test first as a more accurate diagnostic and then we would take them in order. I realize I am basically a newbie when compared with you and Jeffort, so I'll take your word for it. Also, I wasn't sure about how everyone would feel about taking one every weekend? What is the demand for this group? Are we going to be really serious? For the record, I am willing to take three a week if need be. We don't have to wait until March 8th as well, but I would like at least another two to three weeks of prep and it may take more time to set this group up successfully.

I'll probably only have time to take one a week, and maybe not even that.  Several of them I've already taken, so its not a big deal, really.  Since there's lots of space between the tests you've chosen, the real gunners can take the ones in-between during the week.

I just read your thread on Jeff's site and I do like the idea of doing 52 first and then either doing oldest-newest or the clock thing.  The only thing I really might do different is more of the recent tests (the 40s) in place of the really really old ones.  Anyhoo, I'm cool with whatever you decide as long as there's a clear schedule before March 8.

I'm dying to get that one.  I have yet to find a really systematic RC system.  TPR's MCAT Verbal isn't bad.  I sat in on a class the other day and it taught me a lot.  Supposedly our new books are incorporating it so that makes me happy.

I just wish clueless people would stop polluting the air with the same old non-question questions that could be answered (if it is even an answerable question) by spending a few minutes reading a few things before hitting the post or start new thread buttons.

A thorough FAQ and promoting an active user as mod (HINT HINT, LSD!) would be a start.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I have read all of that info. Jeffort. I have to go vote right now, but it looks like we have a good start on this. I think it is a good idea to start off with either the June 2007 or the October 1996 LSATs. Also, if you bought PT 52, then hold onto it because we'll definitely be going over it. Sorry about broadcasting that.

Good ole LizPendenz made a really nice thread with tons of links and stuff about a LOT of commonly repeated questions a while back and we got Groundhog to sticky it, but do people read it before posting?  NO!

That will always be the case, but a good mod will have the retarded threads locked before they have a chance to clog up the front page.

I'm gonna start a campaign.  Earl for Mod!!

Well im all in also. I signed up officially last week. I have taken on prep test already. it was test 28. i didnt do as hot as I thought I would so I know there is a tough road ahead of me. I will be on the LSAT discussion forum also. After lurking around ill finally sign up. I have both bibles and a ton of prep tests. Almost all of the recent ones plus I have all the books from the testmasters course (dont ask). Hoping to have a big day on June 16th. Of course I do have a drop dead date of June 5th, meaning if my prep tests and comfort level arent good or up to my standard then I will reschedule for Oct. Gotta love the option of taking the June test, gives you later date in case you really need it and you dont ruin your cycle. Well good luck to all and I hope to collaborate well with you during this time.

I've gotta research the test site, but it looks like I am taking it at Eckard College in St. Pete, anyone else?

I am up for study group-ness.  I've responded to other study groups in the past, but they never seem to pan out.

You going to hand deliver it?

Something like early November up till April, depending on the school.  That rolling admissions thing.

If you are just starting, you have some time to go and a few seasons to change.  The current cycle is in the close to the end death throws now.  Enjoy spring and summer!

Too bad I couldn't have grown up in a few seasons...maybe baseball seasons.  ;D

I've read this twice now, and I think it is really helpful. Jeffort gave a link for it on the first page of this thread, but I thought I would post it here since it is probably really easy to miss. It explains our situation really well.

Since threads tend to get flushed away to never be found again pretty fast on all the discussion boards and can be hard to follow or keep up with, this category is for people to use for study group purposes.  It is meant to be a place where people participating in online or in person study groups can discuss and easily keep up with the schedule and progress and agendas of study groups that are formed.

It is beneficial to have a study group to keep you on track and to have a dedicated group of people you regularly interact with to discuss problems, issues, and progress with.

The purpose is to facilitate study groups so that you do not have to rely exclusively on everyone being somewhere at the same time every time a group meets, whether in person, in live online chats, or in thread discussions. This is for people that want to keep up with and be able to easily participate in a study group.  People can post when they want and check back when time permits to participate.

Some people prefer live chat room style for interaction and others prefer to participate in threads and posts they can read and post in when time permits.  Keeping up LSAT prep motivation is typically facilitated well by frequent interaction with others that are studying for the test.

Having scheduled times and dates for live chat sessions is also a good way to keep people on track. The upside with threads dedicated to a study group is that it creates a place to keep a record of what was discussed so you can read and review the discussion at will and / or to be able to keep up with schedules and agendas and assignments of the study group.

An amalgam of live chats and threads and / or in person meetings is an effective way to help everyone stay on track and participate and follow along without having to wade thru all the threads that flow thru the boards every day no matter where you are located or what your schedule of available time to participate is.

Sorry Earl, didn't notice the tutoring gig! No offense to you.

I seriously thought about classes and I suppose I haven't totally ruled them out, but I have scored around 170 on the prep tests I've taken and Kaplan/PR didn't really have much to say about helping me increase. Not that 170 isn't high enough, but I'd love to push and maybe earn a few more points/scholarship dollars.

Maybe I'll find a local tutor who can give me some feedback? I like the idea of specific, personalized feedback on errors I didn't even know about. Ever thought about starting a Texas branch?

Depends on the school, some in September, others in October, you have to look at the individual dates.

I love your attitude.  A normal class can still help you push up past 170, but it will probably move a lot slower than you need, spending the first several classes on the basics.  Your money would be better spent on a good tutor who can meet you where you're at score-wise and go from there.  I self-studied to a 173, which was great, but I didn't know how much I didn't know, ya know?  Find a tutor that poops 180s and spend several hours with him/her.  If you find the right person, I really think it can make a difference.

Another thing I give to my really really high scoring students is the LSAT Workout.  It's the only book with fake LSAT questions I'd ever recommend.  The guy who wrote it did a really good job mimicking the real test, especially on Games and RC.  He just made everything about 10x harder.  *evil grin*

Thanks. It's also good to hear about LSAT Workout! Upon hearing my law school plans, a friend gave me that book as a token of encouragement. It was anything but. I got so upset with it. Then after I read that books with fake questions aren't helpful because they aren't as complex as real questions I started to doubt these law school plans. But after banging away at it, the actual LSAT preps were a relief!

Wanted: A tutor who poops 180s.

I'm planning on taking the June exam - I was supposed to start studying in December, with weekly exams (practice), but due to some busy news, things have been postponed.

I'm 8 weeks pregnant this week, and it's been hard for me to lift a book right now.  I will be around 6 months pregnant in June, so I am debating whether to take the test or not still.  That means I need to start cracking the books soon.

If you don't do it before the baby comes, it'll be years before you get around to it.  I'm 33, and many of my friends' wives have given birth over the last 2-3 years.  They all said that 6 months into the pregnancy is not as bad as 8 weeks.  This is a guy's $0.02, for what it's worth.

I've heard that from many friends with recent new additions to the family as well.  As a guy that does not have any kids that I know of so I am not talking from 24/7 experience with all that, I am pretty clear about how the LS routine goes.

It takes over EVERY aspect of your life, is all consuming, and leaves you with ZERO time for ANYTHING else, especially during 1L.

There is a saying that goes something like "When you start LS, if you have a solid relationship with someone that will be patient with you and put up with it and you not being around, you will need it, if start LS with a not so solid relationship it will be over long before first round of finals"  Something like that.

I have seen that type of stuff carry out many times like clockwork.  The saying is based in deep truth.

IMHO there is no way in hell one could properly rear a newborn in the most important ways during those most important first years with the needs and love the child needs while trying to do LS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developmental_psychology

Try and do it and we will end up with another child like this out on the streets:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgWkdGStZIo

After first round of 1L finals when I actually had time to find the nail clippers and just sit in my room I noticed that my toenails were almost 3/4 of an inch long amongst other things I simply did not have the time to even notice or think about for the preceding few months...

Sorry for that gross image, but it is reality, ask any 1L or 2L, get and read the book 1L and/or the movie adapted version.  It is harsh, but it is reality.

I am seriously disturbed by the image of 3/4 inch long toe nails!

Yeah, Talk too soon! I got Wait listed at Hofstra and Dinged at New York Law. I dont get that really, isnt Hofstra about the same school?

The 2007 entering full-time class maintained a 157 median and 154/159 25th/75th percentile LSAT and a 3.49 median.

But New York Law is a 155 median, a 153 (25th), 157 (75th), and a 3.30 median GPA. Interesting..makes no sense, but all righty then! Can't get into them all lol

Alright, it's time to get back to the grind.  Signed up for the June test two months ago, and am finally ordering my PTs (brand-spanking new ones) again.  Have to dust off the PS and Superprep (where did I stash them again?)

Whew, spring break for me too...

I'm going back and forth between feeling like June is far, far away and nearly hyperventilating. LGB and I are going to be spending a lot of time together this week.

Good luck preparing, everyone!

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to the boards, but I've been lurking for the last few months.  Just found this thread, and I'm signed up for the June LSAT.

Good luck to everyone...  Let's get it done with already.

I'm in for June  and ready to rock and roll. I just started to seriously prep and am scoring around 163 so far. I am hoping to get that up some before June comes around, but I guess I will just have to see what happens.

ohya, and hello anonymous internet posters!

I'm putting more work into studying for this damned test than anything I've done in my life.  I took my first full timed test yesterday and banked a 173, but I'm not counting that as representative of my end score (or even typical practice score) yet.

Two months, half an LG Bible, one LR Bible, one Kaplan 180 and a couple dozen tests to go.

Here's to us!

I just signed up to take it at USC.  I wanted to take it at Southwestern Law School, but it was filled up (as well as most of the LA area locations).  Of course my law school adviser didn't tell me that I needed to sign up for a test location yet, but I'm still hoping that I can change my location...

Two diagnostics taken - 158 and 161 - but those were before I started my Testmasters course.  I'm aiming for a 170.

Anyone else have a similar problem?  Will I be seeing any of you at the USC location?

I'm probably retaking in June.  Six weeks of prep to begin May 1 ish!  I've already taken it once and don't have many tests left so hopefully I'll have enough material to fill six weeks.

I thought I'd be screwed because I'd done all the PTs between 19 and 52, but you actually do forget the answers over time.

Anyone prepping now feel that they arent making any progress or not dedicating enough time and want to delay till Oct and use summer free time. Just wondering so I dont feel bad for thinking this. Or am I loser and all alone.  :(

Nope, you're not alone feeling that way, I do too.  We're just the few people who admit to this, you're not suffering alone.  The only thing you can do is drudge on with the study, take June, and sob while on the phone with LSAC to cancel your score.........and later register for October (kidding). Anyway, try not to think so negative about the exam, one of the primary tools you need for this test is confidence.  If you feel you're not putting in enough time, then you're probably not.  Put in more time.  I know it is not that simple, but you must be reasonable and generous in terms of your prep time.  Make a honest assessment of your weekly priorities and prioritize time.  For me, when I know my week is academically hectic, I allocate more time at the END of the week for prep and spend the first several days doing classwork.  As crazy as this may sound, but sometimes I sit in my library on Fridays from 1-8 doing LR problems (I don't recommend this), then spend 4-6hrs on both Saturday and Sunday.  This way I make up time on my weekends, in total that it comes out to approx. 22-24hrs of prep per week.  Granted, I've only been doing this routine for three weeks (currently in 4th), but it does seem to help.  Really, as with any exam, it's not about days prepped, but hours.  This probably doesn't make you feel better, but I though I'd give you an idea of what others may be doing.

Good Luck and Godspeed.

I'm in for June. This is my second time taking the LSAT. The first time (Sep 06), I had absolutely no business taking it. Long story short, got a disastrous score (148). This time however, things are different. I've taken the Powerscore Course, got the Bibles, taking the practice tests, reviewing my responses against TCR (you know, all the stuff I should have been doing the first time).

I've got additional motivation too. I'm in the Air Force, and ironically the week of the June LSAT, the promotion release for E-7 will come out. You wanna talk about a waiting game? Try taking 2 100 Question tests in March and not finding out how you did until 3 months later!

Good to know.  I actually think I have somewhere around 10 tests in that range left to take for full length practice, and I'm hoping to reuse the ones I used to prep last June as practice sections, so hopefully that's a good strategy.

It doesn't matter if the test is hard.  The LSAT is scored in relation to the performance of all test-takers, so what matters is the quality of your peers.

Right.
Because expressing a ??? and WTF necessarily means that I believed Julie Fern.
And am I wrong to wish for an easier exam even if it means having a harsher curve?
It is, after all, just my own personal preference.  But good luck to you too!

Superdude, I'm fairly certain that the curves are preset, so I doubt the quality of my peers on test day is going to really matter.

What didn't you like about that?  After my Kaplan class gets done, I'm planning on trying to take a full test nearly every single day for the 2-3 weeks I have until the actual test.  No Good?

I prefer the tests that are really hard and have a more generous curve. I've found that I get about the same amount wrong on "easy" as opposed to "hard" tests so the harder the test the more I can get wrong to get the desired 168.

The problem for me with taking so many so fast was that I was REALLY stressed out and high strung right before the test.  I felt really overwhelmed having so much to do in such a short time- I think I got the Logic Games Bible just a few weeks before the test.  I usually think that stress helps me, but I'm not so sure it did in this case.  This year I'm doing around the same amount of prep (probably a little bit more) but I'm doing it over 6 weeks instead of the 3 or 4 I did last year.  I'd rather spend a few hours a day most days and have time off than be spending 6 hours a day every day on it at the very end, but that's definitely just my personal preference.     I am really just trying to be prepared limit my anxiety this time and I think by giving myself plenty of free time and time to kind of "digest" the stuff I'm learning it will help me out a little.

That being said, I definitely think taking tons of practice tests helped me a lot.  I think it all comes down to how much is too much for you to handle, and taking them everyday was very stressful.  The one benefit I think it had is by test day it was like second nature because I had been doing them everyday.

Damnit.

Just got the results back on the initial Kaplan diagnostic.  157.  Choked on the last two sections.  I'll have to work on my endurence.  I was hoping for about a 160 in order to meet my 163-165 goal on test day.

This bodes evil.

there is only one thing on this board that bodes evil and it not your results.  im trying to take the test in May.  if i am not granted my wish, i may have to enter into a huge law suit because this is discrimination and prejudice, i tell ya.  did you hear about the pending law suit started by that student from Vermont who found the word 'micropterous' to be totally and completely downright dirty and offensive????? this ordeal set such a precident that people are no longer willing to say the word correctly out of fear of being sued!!!!!

Is that a diagnostic you took cold?  If so, you can easily get that score.

My diagnostics went:
1. 158 (cold)
2. 161 (cold)
3. 163 (halfway through course)
