Why did Duke send me a waiver? I only have a 160/3.79. Is it so they can reject me in order to increase their "yield percentage" or whatever? Obviously 70 bucks is nothing to them compared to their posistion in the rankings lol.

Yes, by encouraging students to apply so that the school can reject them, the school would increase its acceptance rate--a factor in the U.S. News rankings. This strategy is not unheard of. But if you self-identified with LSAC as an URM, then you might actually have a shot at acceptance.

I am a URM with a 164 and got fee waivers from Columbia and Duke, and then some schools I actually can get into. If you're URM, may as well send it. If not, decide if you want to waste the $12.

I am 162/3.94 and also got a waiver from Duke. $12 is dirt to me so I went ahead and applied. I guess they are trying to break out of the 10th place tie in the rankings, lol.

hahahaha I asked the same question b/c I got a 162/3.87. UVA also waived my fee, and that clearly isn't going to happen.

Acceptance rate is a big input into USNWR rating calculation, so I am sure these schools are artificially fudging their acceptance rates, similar to how they fudge their employment after graduation statistics. However, I applied a month ago and they have not even started reviewing my application. Wonder what they are waiting for to reject me.
