I currently go to UCM, it is unranked by US News and a lot of other places etc...
I was wondering if going to UCM for my undergraduate degree, will hurt me during the admissions process? (For a T14 school)
Thanks,
David Do

It's ok, I am just worried because I don't think we will be accredited by next year. Does the University of California name carry any weight?
Thank you,
David Do

I will say that it's VERY strange to me that you don't know what the accreditation status of your own school will be when they graduate.
As I understand it, UC Merced's first class entered in Fall '05, which should mean that you're still a junior unless you skipped a year or something. I would suggest going and asking a dean (a.) if your school is accredited now, and (b.) if it will be accredited when you graduate; relying on people here is not going to be nearly as useful. My quick research didn't answer either of those questions.
I believe that to enter an ABA-approved law school, you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college, but you should check on that. I've always thought that in the initial accreditation process for colleges is that they aim to have the accreditation done by the time the first class graduates, and I would be really surprised if this wasn't the case for a UC school.

I just found out that we are accredited under the University California. And we still have a few years before we formally get accredited by WASC.

is there a standard letter that they have explaining the situation that you can send in with your applications. Alhough I have no justification, I think you'll be ok. The only time I heard of anyone having a problem with this is when soem guy 'went' to some random internet college. Have you called the schools to which you're interested in applying to see what they say about it?

I'd have to agree, I can't imagine any school having a problem with a UC, regardless of how new it is or its current accreditation status. Good luck and hope it works out!
