Just as an update to this thread...  I was accepted at UT (3.9, 162/170 out of state).  This is a school that says they consider all scores and didn't necessarily say they're taking the higher score.  I don't know if my 166 average would have gotten me accepted this early in the cycle.  I tend to think they looked at my 170 more seriously than my 162.

I just called NYU and they told me they still average.
I also contacted Columbia, who gave me an extremely vague answer:

"While we have historically averaged multiple LSAT scores, the ABA now
requires that we report the highest.  In evaluating applications for
admission, the Admissions Committee will continue to consider the
applicant’s entire testing history."

I think this means that they are not simply considering the higher score...  ???

I was at the LA law forum this weekend and spoke to Fordham who said they would take the highest score in my case.  I also spoke to Duke who said that in my case they would most likely look at just the highest score.  My score difference is 7pts.  This changed my mind about applying to Duke.   So for both schools, it seems if you have a high enough point difference, they will be looking at the highest more.  Also I was not going to write an LSAT addendum b/c I have one for my gpa but every school I spoke to said that if you do not write an LSAT addendum they will be a lot less inclined to take your highest score, they need a reason.
I also spoke to Stanford and they did not straight out say average, they said they look at each file and then decide.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the good news about Duke and Stanford to a degree.

I talked to Maryland on the phone before I retook and they said they'll take the highest. They didn't specify a point range.

hmmm, anyone know the official policy on cancellations from the t14s?  do they somehow factor that into the average?  if that's even possible.
