I got the "email and password" email.  I called Equifax to place the 90 day fraud alert.

I'd recommend that everyone do this.  It was a pretty simple process, as has been said.  You just call their fraud number, and you never have to talk to a soul.  Just dial in your SSN and some other stuff, and it's all done.

...I think they should just give us all acceptances for going through such a trying time.

The one I got says that my SSN is safe, and that the primary concern is with the password I used to check my app status.

I got this email, as well. At this point I forget -- didn't they just assign us passwords?

There are too many status checkers to monitor; I can't keep them straight.  I don't recall creating a password, does anyone remember?

I can't remember if they assign us a password or not. If we create our own I certainly can't remember what it is, since I alternate between 2-3 passwords.

My plan is to go into all my online accounts and create a totally new never-been-used-before password, to cover all my bases, since my Duke password really could have been any 1 of 3.

Unless you have a ridiculously huge number of online accounts, I would probably recommend the same to you guys. Better safe than sorry.

I remember creating a password for the status check. I'm unsure though if I changed it from one they sent me or if I had to create one on my own.

We made our own passwords.  I checked in the firefox saved passwords b/c I couldnt remember what I used.  It was a dumb throaway PW, so I'm not bothering to change my others.  I'm sure everyone knows this, but if you use firefox and save your passwords, you can go to tools->options->security-> show passwords, then find the duke website in the list and click show passwords again to see what you used if you forgot (and saved it of course).

If you want to read the text of the letter sent to current Duke law students...(much MORE information than what was sent to applicants);
