As with Miscanthus, one harvest either early winter or late spring
dependent on the use of the biomass as a cellulosic feedstock or use as
fuel in a variety of furnace types on the market. We will wait another
few weeks to harvest about 7 acres of miscanthus in Illinois for the
purpose of burning as a furnace fuel next fall-winter. The fact is,
there are Highly Erodible Lands across the Midwest that would be better
suited to a grass crop versus a traditional row crop... and not all of
those acres have ever been enrolled in any conservation program.
