$ at bc, unc, or vandy
« on: March 18, 2004, 10:16:39 AM »
was offered 23k at bc, haven't heard from vandy on fa, and i'm in-state at unc so will likely not get $.  if vandy and unc don't provide substantial scholarship/fa, should i take bc's offer?  cost of living in boston area is quite high, which means i'd be graduating w/about 75k in debt even w/scholarship.  what do you guys think?

If most of the money from BC was need and not merit aid, then you will probably get something comparable from Vandy.  They are generous with both kinds of aid so your FA offer should be pretty nice.  I would wait until the offer comes through unless you have to put in a deposit.  75k of debt is a lot, not enough to abandon a school you may like more especially considering both Vandy and UNC are great schools and even without a scholarship, UNC is much much cheaper.

Don't forget to consider the cost of living.
Boston can be very expensive, whereas  (ooo look, a lawyer word) Nashville and -- I expect -- the UNC area would be much cheaper.
