Is the law school forum helpful?
« on: December 02, 2007, 03:48:53 PM »
I'm a 4th yr at UCI and I am kindof considering law school. I was on the LSAC website, and they had something about law school forums...for anyone who knows about this, is it important and/or helpful to attend this forum or will I be wasting my time driving up to LAX for a forum?

it was informative for me, but then again I only had to drive 20 minutes to be in Atlanta...How far of a drive do you have?  It wasn't super informative, but I made some important contacts and got a ton of info!  If you have the time go, if not don't.

I thought it was useful, until I realized noone would offer any negative information unless you hit them with it from another source...and then they give you a dirty look.

It is good to narrow/expand your choices.

I decided not to apply to 1 school, not to attend a school that has accepted me, and apply to 2 others I had not considered before.

I am glad I went.

You can also get application fee waivers from talking to the right schools.

I got several fee waivers (UVA, Michigan, etc.) immediately after I chatted with the representatives at the forum, so I can only assume that it helps.

If you have a set list of schools you want to apply to, it's probably not that beneficial.  But if you're new to the process and are trying to figure out your list of schools, it will almost certainly be helpful.

And if you're just obsessive and want to do everything you can to increase your chances of acceptance, then you've probably already registered...

I chatted the adcomms up, and I did get some useful information, but I don't know how worth it it was for me. The rep for Alabama did remember me when she called to let me know they accepted me. I feel like others might also remember me, but who knows? They met tons of people that day. I'm not very patient, so I ended up only talking to the schools to which I'm applying (and not even all of those.) The lines were awful.

I just got a letter in the mail the other day from the rep at Seattle I meet at the forum with a handwritten note about what we talked about at the forum, so it helps to meet these people cause they have influence when it comes to admissions. Especially at the saftey schools because everyone is at the tables of the T14
