What is a normal full time credit load in law school?  12, 15, 18 credits?

15 or 16.

Your first year is going to be restricted to about 15 or 16 credits if you are fulltime.  Even after, I don't think you can go above 18, even if you wanted, or so says my wife's law school.

Depending on how your school allocates credits, you should be looking right around the 15/16 mark give or take.
Most people can petition to take more in their second year.
1L is a tradition and an institution.  Every school wants everyone 1L to go through the same rite of passage.

Also, for the record, California Western ($$$$) for the win.

Hi everyone. New to the forum. I've been lurking around and finally decided to register.

I got into Cal Western with a $64,000 scholarship. I don't have any details because I was notified by e-mail but still pretty excited.

Waiting on USD and McGeorge

Scholarships...See if schools you are thinking about attending offer full tuition scholarships based on a student's academic performance their first semester....I'm a 1L at UDC in Wash.,D.C. and received full tuition for my 2nd and 3rd year (out of district tuition rate) based on my first semester performance.

UDC is a T4 school and seeks to retain high performing students, as opposed to losing them via a transfer.  I believe many other schools have similar merit based scholarships.

Accepted UMKC via phone call with email and snail mail to follow. Seems like a bit much.

Said they'd give me in-state tuition for first year and I can establish residency after that. Tacked on another $13,000 over 3 years.

Lady was kind of in a hurry so I'm sure more of you will be getting calls!!
