it depends on how you've written it. Is the essay about the guy and his death or is it about a catalyst that drove you to some introspection or decision beyond "Life is short?"

I'm guessing it would be okay, provided it's not focused on the death and the bad feelings associated with it, but more about coming to some other, more positive conclusion.

my PS opens with me counselling a high-risk suicidal individual and I've had some really nice feedback on it. I think topic, in general, is not really the issue with the PS, it's how you deal with that topic that makes it work or not work.
