In hindsight, I'd recommend carrying around a flask of your booze of choice and taking a large pull whenever you get a call from a 617 number.  Everyones more relaxed and charming after a shot (or two).

if i went complete a month ago and haven't gotten an email yet am i out of luck?  or is there still a chance.  when should i be giving up hope?

I didn't get one, but I got one last year, and the timing seems right. But...guys. You're going to give yourselves ulcers.
