too old stories??

I've decided that for my PS, the topic would be an incident in high school when
I helped a friend overcome an addiction. Is this story too old??
I could get a real dramatic story stressing my contribution but
I'm having some doubts. Story takes place in 1998.
any thoughts??

I would be hesitant to focus entirely on something that happened prior to college, but I suppose it'll depend on how well you can make it relevant to what kind of person you are today.

I'm beginning mine with a story around about 2000, so I don't think so. From what I've read of sample essays I don't think it's a terrible issue. People are affected by everything that happens to them. I mean, if you're abused as a child and overcome that, why not write about it, it's more than likely a turning point in your life even though it may have happened when you were like 7.
