How exactly would you add an addendum, like for GPA?
not getting too much into it, but a close family member died and I fell into a depression which helped cause a descending trend in grades (not too bad, though) through the year.

Write a page long explanation of how and why you were affected by it. Play it off by showing that you raised your GPA during the next semesters.

Page long is far too long. Keep it short and to the point. Keep in mind that admissions officers hate reading addenda.
