I don't know if this is a concern in the US, but I have at a few occasions heard it be over here, so mentioning it anyway. "Many" (I have no idea how frequently) who adopt domestically can end up in various kinds of conflicts with the child's remaining family, even if parents are gone it's not unheard of for some grandparents or uncles and aunts to figure out a few years later that it might have been nice with a kid anyway.

Yes, that can happen, and those cases have been decided on both sides of the fence, so there's no sure bet. But it seems like you'd really miss out if you didn't adopt a kid just because of that risk.

I may be way off mark here, but my impression is that international adoption is open to a lot of people for whom domestic adoption isn't a realistic option.

That's possible.. I didn't think of that.  Even so..
Waiting... :(

Even so what?

You're still against it?

Even so.. there are still kids here that CAN be adopted..
Like I said, I think its a great thing when any child can be given a loving, safe home..
Waiting... :(

It's not as tough to adopt older kids. Unfortunately, most of the kids in the US who have a hard time getting adopted are non-infants and minorities. Check out your state web pages. PA's is called AdoptPAKids, I believe.

credited.  i want to adopt a baby or young kid domestically, specifically a black child--they tend to be the last ones adopted most of the time.

I've always planned on adopting, since I've never had a crazy urge to have biological kids. I love the idea of going out and "finding" your family. I'd like to adopt from Guatemala or Chile, but really don't care where my kid comes from- I'll take any race, gender, etc.

If I decided to adopt I think I would feel obligated to adopt at least two children so that the first one could have a brother or sister... if I adopted from abroad, I would try to adopt both children from the same country.

Then again, if I had biological kids, I would also have more than one so that the first kid had a built-in friend. They say you have the first kid for yourself (and your SO) and the second child for the first.
