168/3.9 - Reasonable School Choices?

Friend of mine (168/3.79 from yale) got WL'd at HLS and was in at NYU. Ended up choosing GULC, but there you have it.

I was wondering who there was from HYPS at GULC.  You can't really get a low GPA in those UGs unless you try, you have a HYPS degree, and as long as you pass the LSAT (167+) with those credentials you're in at a T10.

Could you shed some light?

but the person DID get into a T10...read what dash wrote--in at NYU but chose GULC

 wtf?

(isn't the average LSAT even at Harvard only a 166?)

Maybe HYPS students tend to go to GULC for public policy and nonprofit; I mean, they really don't need the money that a very top law school would bring instead they could just get cushy i-banking jobs.

if you're shooting at T14 166 isn't gonna get you many places without a very top GPA, and then you're probably not going to GULC but a Michigan or Boalt as well.

i'm trying to figure out why HYPS students end up at gulc.

Well I was just questioning your characterization of a 167+ as 'passing' (and presumably anything below as failing).

But to answer your question, I'd think that Mich, Boalt (and maybe add Penn in here too) can be fickle, even to HYPS UGs (those don't show interest, etc). But I think a lot of people go to GULC over lower/mid top 10 because they place a very high value on being in DC for law school, justified or otherwise - in addition the typical reasons anyone chooses a lower ranked school or another (money, etc). There was several Michigan admits on LSD this cycle that seriously considered GULC/GW over Mich.

Lily from last cycle chose GULC over CCN MVP..and so did Ciao form this cycle...but then again, they both had full rides

exhibit 1) full rides.
exhibit 2) want to be in dc.
exhibit 3) absolutely uninteresting even with an HYPS degree.

you people do realize it's entirely possible to get into and graduate from Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford without being extraordinarily bright or curious or interesting, right?  i'm not sure what kind of fantasy land you live in where you need to 'figure out' why they go slumming at GULC.
