NW here. don't want to interview or defer, probably won't app.

I had the same feeling about applying (I just don't have time), but someone on another NW thread said he applied last minute (with borderline numbers) and got in with $90k.  For $12, I figured I would apply.

I'm lost.  If Columbia bases their waivers entirely on the LSAT, I'm not sure why I didn't get one with a 172.  I feel like they slipped a hand into my back pocket and snuck out a $100 bill from my wallet....

....And then put a $20 back.

....Uh just so the math works out, ya know?

Does ANYONE know how these crazy fee waivers work?  Why do some people get Columbia and other people w/ higher stats DONT get the Columbia FW?   Same w/ Northwestern... I'd like a NW fee waiver :(  How'd you all get it???

NW seems to be a GPA thing.

I dunno.  I've got a GPA around Tetris's, but I got NW.  There's got to be at least a little bit of randomness in the process.  I wonder if [some] schools set not only cutoffs but also a quota, if nothing else (we seem to have seen some targeted FWs already too).

Let me shed some light on this issue, since I've been paying particularly close attention to it.

There appear to be two classes of people: those who get all of the fee waivers that their numbers would predict, and those who get only a fraction of what their numbers predict. It really does seem to be dichotomous, and I have yet to see a convincing explanation of what the difference is, URM status aside.

I am in the former category - I've received every T14 fee waiver mentioned here and the majority of the other ones. My CRS is enabled, I took the June LSAT, I have preferences listed for basically every state with a T14 school in it, a GPA over 3.75, and an LSAT higher than 168, and my transcript has been processed. My understanding is that there are others for whom all of those things are also true but who have received only a fraction of the fee waivers that I have received.

Personally, I found that getting my transcripts completely processed (as in every school I've gone to) is what made the difference.

At first I only had Duke and I was sad, but once my LSDAS GPA was calculated I got UCLA, Columbia and Michigan within a week and a half.

Just got a Vandy fee waiver!  They even said they'd refund my application fee if I already applied.

So far I've been waived at:

Columbia (email)
Vandy (email)
UCLA (email)
William and Mary (email)
Washington & Lee (received snail mail w/o mention of waiver and snuck a peak at LSDAS)
George Mason (snail mail)
Temple (asked them for an info packet, peaked at LSDAS)
Lewis & Clark (snail mail)

I'm pretty proud of the list I'm generating here :D  The only 2 schools I'm definitely applying to w/ or w/o a fee waiver are U of MN and Boston U.  Maybe Cornell too.  Still better than the $500+ I thought I might spend on apps!

So for those of us who took the Sept LSAT, will we be in this game once our scores arrive or is it possible that some schools have stopped sending the FWs?
