Yea, and honestly they don't appear to be that much bigger than the regular Macbook, I'm just wondering about it fitting in my North Face bookbag -- the last thing I want to do is carry around some stupid laptop bag.

can you go to an Apple store and compare them? Size them against your bag? If not,

I went to the store the other day and MBP wasn't really that much bigger than MB - just about an inch diagonally. MB is quite small and MBP seemed that it would fit in a book bag just fine.

I love how the Michigan crowd is all over the mac thread.  ;D

I've had a 12" Powerbook for four years (It's not cute. It's compact!) and it's still going strong, which I know has something to do with the extra several hundred I coughed up to enhance the RAM, etc. when I bought it.

So, I'm definitely going with the Macbook Pro for law school.

The MacBook Pro is actually 0.08 inches slimmer than the regular MacBook - although bigger on the other sides, of course. I currently have a 15.4 screen laptop that's about 1.8 inches thick and I've never had an issue putting it in any backpack I owned.

Just wait, rtqw.  When you see SA and me with our super cool 17" MBPs, you will change your mind about preferring the MB.

yes it IS thinner! and the weight difference is truly negligible. I <3 MBP.

God I feel like such an MBP troll.

Why oh why can't this come out before law school starts... http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/11/macbook-pro-12-inch-ultraportable-rumor-resurfaces/

I really want to switch over to a Mac, however, I just can't seem to get over the weight/size issue.  Right now I'm in line for a thinkpad x61s which is substantially smaller/lighter.  Iím thinking that as I will be seeing this laptop more than my wife/friends/family in law school, having something truly portable is key.  Plus Mac batteries just suck so you have to lug around the charger.  Thoughts?  I would love someone to talk me into a MBP.

Yea, I'm leaning toward the MBP. Is the size too large to carry around with books, etc?

Most people seem to go for laptops the MBP size(15, not 17") and have no problems. There are some people who have 17" laptops though- they seem to go through backpacks more quickly than others.

I will be jealous :) but since I'm spending less I'll have money left over for more ram and one of these (going for blue, of course).

I'm going to miss my 12" PB. A lot. It's too bad they won't just come out with the damn ultraportable MBP!
