ive spoken with a few people that said they have to go in and lift heavy boxes of docs.  ended up hurting there back...

That's what we use SA's from top schools to do.

I wrote an order to dismiss a case based on lack of subject matter jurisdiction and now I'm working on one about standing for the judge. The stuff at the small firm is not as exciting- I'm sifting through research and organizing it.

I have friends at small firms who are doing what I would consider more secretarial stuff (answering phones, even), which would probably make me want to kill myself.  I just research and write memos all day and no one bothers me.

It's pretty accurate. There's no way I could go to my small firm more than twice a week. The judge is much more interesting but I need the money so I'm doing both. On the bright side the small firm I'm with is wary of putting me on projects that are too secretarial, so that's a plus. I don't think they'd ever ask me to answer phones.

Hah- barely anything but you live in the same area as me so you know the pay is crap normally.
