I feel so depressed.. help!

I feel so depressed.. help!
« on: May 31, 2007, 08:47:23 PM »
I have been studying for the LR sections for about 2 months but did not see much improvement on my score. :'( Most of the time I get the first 10 questions correct (despite the fact that I have to read some stimulus couple times to really understand it) but the questions 10~20 give me much trouble. I feel the stimuluses and answer choices are way to difficult for me to read through and often have to spend so much time just to comprehend the meaning of the question. I cant even finish 20 questions and still get many wrong answers. I read the logical reasoning bible twice and have studied quite a lot exclusively for LR sections but I do not seem to improve at all. What is my problem? One thing I want to point out is that I just feel way too overwhelmed to face all these dense, confusing questionis in the later half of the section. Could anybody please help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

im no expert trust me- but either take a powerscore class so you can get one on one tutoring...or start studying for the mcat and go to med  school.

I am actually enrolled in a TM class starting in July. Do you think PS classes are much more effective than TM ones?

I do not, repeat, do not recommend the latter.

i think testmasters is just as good- from what i hear, as long as its not kaplan.  i cant afford the classes either way so im going to self study with powerscore bibles.  but in your case it seems you need a class environment.  i do too, but ill have to make due.  and if not med school, take the gmat and go to grad school.

Logical reasoning is one of the hardest to IMPROVE on.  Two months is not a lot of time.

Midway through the sections, the questions do get harder....sort of a mini heartbreak hill.

I think taking a course could help you.  The most important things are:

-read the question type before the stimulus
-find the right answer without reaching (making additional inferences/assumptions)
-the biggest kind of error is the "going too far" error

If you are like me and find questions where you have to find similar logical arguments to be the most difficult, just leave those to the end.

Quite honestly, two months is not that long.  You'll eventually hit a point where things "click".  If it isn't working for you, you might want to find a course.  It's a lot of money....but in the big picture it's not.

Good luck!

Why do you keep on talking about med school? I am an English major  :-[ and I want to beat this test some day even though it is kicking my butt right now. :-\

-read the question type before the stimulus

I fundamentally disagree.

Hey! thanks for comment! You said 2 month isnt long time, how long do you think a person like me have to study to see a significant rise in my score? I am just feeling lost because I did what many people on this forum did to get good score but there does not seem to be much imrpovement. How do you people get 160's so easily?
