X60 vs. T61

X60 vs. T61
« on: May 28, 2007, 04:14:34 PM »
I am ordering my new thinkpad tom. and am still up in the air over these two computers and was wondering if anybody had any information that could sway me.  I would go with the X60 except that I am worried about the fact that it doesn't have a touchpad and no optical drive.  The T61 seems pretty good to me but I guess my only thing is it isn't quite as portable as the x60.  Any opinions?

I have the T60, which I'm guessing is similar to the T61, and it is fine for portability.  I got the 14 inch screen instead of the 15.4 inch screen, which I think makes it easier to see the prof in class.  I did not get the X60 bc I thought it might be too small.

Did you ever have the opportunity to try out an x60.  I can't find one anywhere to actually try out and I just don't want to take the chance buying a 2500 dollar notebook that might be too small when I know the T61 will be big enough.

The X60 is $2500?  That sounds like way too much.  I didn't try out the X60, but I've seen the 12 inch notebooks (which I think is how big the X60 is), and they are way too small for me.

I've worked on both screen sizes and the 12" screen of the X60 was just fine for me in a classroom situation.  In class I don't have multiple windows open so it's not a big deal.  For home use when I'm doing all sorts of things on it, I connect it to a 20" external monitor via a dock just so I can have tons of desktop space to play with.

12" is fine as long as the computer still supports decent resolution. And yeah, get an external monitor for home work.

I was between these two as well, and went with the T61. The main reason for me was lack of an optical drive on the X60. I know there will be at least one time when I want to use one while out and about and will be annoyed. If i were to carry around an external optical drive, or the expansion station, it would totally defeat the purpose of the small machine.

Plus, you can get more power for less money with the T61. I actually think of everything out there on the market, the T61 has the best size/weight to power trade off for the money (with the discounts they are running). At the end of the day, its just a little bigger and only 2 lbs heavier, but it has a bigger screen, more power and is less expensive.

Personally I think 12" is too small.  I went with the T61 because of the 14" screen rather than the 12".

Thanks for the help guys.  I just ordered a T61 but it has an estimated ship date of August 31st.  What on earth is up with that.  Anybody else have anything like that happen to them.
