LR 42.4.16 - ID the Conclusion

Just wanted to pass this one along. It got me and I hate it for it. I simply didn't ID the conclusion correctly.

Maybe a little discussion about effective strategies to ID the conclusion more quickly and accurately?

This one is tricky because of the "Thus" which usually indicates conclusion.  The first sentence, however, is supported by that (subsidiary) conclusion.

Conclusions can do 3 things.  Disagree, interpret evidence, or make a recommendation.  Sentences that don't do one of these things can't be our conclusion.  Sentence 2 just states an idea with no justification, so it's out.  Sentence 3 (the "Thus") kinda sorta (poorly) follows from sentence 2, but it's a bit of a stretch.  If we accept that as true, however, it provides evidence for Sentence 1, the actual conclusion.

i didn't mean this question specifically. Please don't think i am questioning your explanation because it is a good one. I meant that they explain these tricks (like putting  "thus" in the end so people would be confused that that is the main conclusion not a subsidiary one) very well IMHO.

What answer did you originally pick?  I kind of figured that B,C,D were easy to reject, leaving A & E as the only possible choices left. It looks to me that only sentence 2 offers a premise, so that eliminated A.  I guess it is not such a sophisticated method, though...

thanks Jeffort! I personally become wary when i see huge passage. I keep in mind that the question can be "Method Reasoning comclusion and sub-consclusion ID".
