Was Japanese colonialism of Korea ultimately beneficial for Korea?

Yes, but Communism was a phenomenon, carried on by Lenin, that grew independent of the situation in Korea.  Considering Korea was a weak nation, it is likely that the entire country could have been taken over by the Commies, was it not for the dual liberation of Korea by both the USSR and the USA.

So by your chain of logic, we could argue it was good Japan took over, cause that allowed BOTH the USA (which was engaged in a war with JApan along with the USSR) and the USSR to share Korea.

Cho, why are you trying to have intellectual discussions today?  You're better at it than you'd let on, of course, but it will lower your post count!

A little off topic, but what the hell is with all those American soldiers who fled to North Korea during the 1960's - 1980's.  I have been reading about one guy who is now in American custody after visiting Japan and another who is having a documentary done about his life in the North.

Anyone been to the North?

1960s-80s was when the entire nation was disillusioned with the gov't, the system, everything, including soldiers.

Communism, in theory, always sounds great.  There were many Koreans the defected to the North after the Korean War.
