What are my chances at the T20 next year?

What are my chances at the T20 next year?
« on: April 15, 2007, 10:50:19 PM »
171 LSAT, 3.30 UGPA polisci from TTT. Pursuing MA in IR, ~3.5 GPA when I graduate (at GWU Elliott). No work experience minus a few pointless internships. Virginia resident (hopefully).

What are my chances at T20? UVA would be my top choice (why I'm trying to establish residency), what would my chances be there?

Dude, it's like, you gotta stop taking things so seriously, man.  I mean, it's like your name says, the government is just this all-controlling, ever-present like, entity, and if you live your life entirely in its grips, in its fingertips, living off tips, never taking road trips, then you have no chances anywhere.  And maybe none of us do, and that's the saddest part of all, bro.

There is a guy on here who goes by the name "Johnny" something or other ... he has your numbers (but GPA from W&M) and has gotten into UVA, NYU, GULC etc.  You've got a good shot, especially at UVa.

Surely you can sell the "few pointless internships" as something that seems better than that?

Holy crap, I'm a celebrity!

OP, I imagine at UVA you'd have the best shot. With a 171 LSAT you're a virtual shoo-in for top 20; I have no idea how high you'd be able to get, though. I've heard conflicting reports on how advantaged VA residents are; but if it's true that 40% of seats are held for VA residents, I'd say you've got as good a shot as any.

In general I'm not much of a fan of "chances" per se; they're a great tool to figure out where it's realistic to apply, but that's it. All this "you have a 40% chance of getting in!" is nonsense: you're only applying once; it's either 0% or 100%.

Just to throw some more hope your way: I've a 3.16 from UNC, 173 LSAT and I'm a non-resident (non-URM as well), and I got into UVa. So, it's definitely possible - good luck!

He was?

Me too, btw... back in 4th grade or so, but it was community-access cable, so I doubt it counts.
