How about an acronym FAQ?

I looked all over and even did a search, so sorry if this is in place, but I can't find it!

I think you should do an FAQ which lists with common acronyms such as LOR, ASW, LOCI, T14, T4 etc. Some of them are self explanatory, but sometimes a thread is very confusing when people all know what they're talking about, but I have no clue!

I think this is a great idea - it would improve the accessability of the site, make it less daunting for neophytes, and eliminate "what does that mean" posts.

these have been around ... I suggest doing it yourself ... go to the Meta-discussion board and just ask everyone for all the acronyms they can think of.
I think the ones that took me the longest were IMO and IMHO (in my (humble) opinion) and maybe FWIW (for what its worth).  And GTK (good to know)

That thread is good, but it's not at all what I would think of as a first 'best' option to reference LSD acronyms. What is needed is a single post with a metalist of acronyms and their definition(s).

I also agree with the sticky idea. Hell, sticky it at the top of every sub-board. On message boards in general, but this one (LSD) in particular, certain acronyms seem very prevalent, therefore, I don't think this would be overkill. (Everyone has to remember what it was like when they first encountered discussion board lingo; it can be confusing!  )

Unfortunately, my agreement and encouragment on this issue is worth all of about $0.00  I'm by no means a 'higher-up' of LSD; perhaps this thread will catch the eye of someone with the necessary controls to make this happen?

1. Who knows if this will work, but why don't we compile a list, and then lobby to get it stickied. I'll add (via editing this post, assuming the page doesn't get too long) if I think of anything else.

2. You may want to lurk on the law student board side for a while, to get some of their acronyms as well. I (and I assume many LSDers) tend to read posts on both sides of the fence, and there are some acronyms which are used much more commonly over there (such as OCI)

3. You also might want to alphabetize that list.

4. (minor quibbles) WE should be "work experience"; LOCI should be "Letter of continued interest"

5. You might consider creating three organizing categories for the acronyms, out of the two that you started with:

a) Pre-Law & General Acronyms (When you are appling to school - what acronyms are used mostly on prelaw boards)

examples: LOCI, LOR, LSAT

b) Law School Acronyms (When you are in school - what acronyms are used mostly on law boards)

examples: OCI, DOJ, LRAP

c) Standard Discussion Board Acronyms (general use internet discussion board acronyms)

examples: HTH, OTOH, TITCR

And then, if the acronyms could fit in either a or b (e.g. TTT - you could be calling a school a TTT before or during law school) just toss it into the first group (hence the "general" heading as well)

I tried to organize my additions in this manner.
