do you feel it's harder socially to be a deformed/ugly white/asian, or an attractive URM? Which is more likely to discourage someone, and make it harder for them to achieve academically?
Ugly white/asian, definitely. Attractive people being stupid is also another invidious stereotype. 
I didn't even think of this.
Being hot might help socially, but everyone will think you're a bimbo or mimbo otherwise.
