I'm concerned that the censorship was at the request of several posters. That doesn't do much for our stick-up-the-ass reputation.

One of the SFLSDers reported because his name was posted, which was obviously the right thing to do.  I think that's why it got haterated, although that's weird because his name was deleted pretty quick.  And I imagine there's a pretty good chance burning sands is lying about several people complaining.

Hey don't look at me, I just work here.   :P

For the record we (the mods) received about 6 (six) different requests about that particular convo. Trust me when I say I have absolutely no dog in this fight and no reason to make this stuff up.  As far as I'm concerned, if you guys wanna talk about each other's personal lives by all means, be my guest.

FYI: If one person complained it could possibly be skipped over depending on the circumstances, but whenever several complaints come in about the same thread our hands are forced.

Yes. But then again I don't get out much.

Does anyone know anything about Huq (aside from being at NYU)? I'm considering Legislation next quarter, but apparently he's never taught. Something about big fat question marks terrifies me.

I'm actually pretty sure I'm going to take Legislation next quarter (that or Patents with Masur). Are you sure he's never taught before? I thought he was a Lecturer at NYU, as well as having a role at the Brennan Center.

Anyway, the only stuff I've heard about Huq is second-hand and more about his reputation than his teaching abilities... but all of that has been stellar.

But I found some videos of him on youtube and now I'm not so sure about the in-class experience:

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=aziz+huq

You can always go to both Legislation and another elective during the first week and then choose which one you like more (at least I think 1Ls can do this, as I know 2L/3Ls can).

I wish I had taken Legislation with Gersen last year.

Perhaps he has lectured, but NYU's website listed him as merely the director (?) of the Brennan Center. If he has some experience, I'd feel better. And I did not know about the sit-in and switch policy. I'll have to see whether 1Ls can do that. Part of the problem is that none of the other classes really interests me, even given the impressive lineup of professors.

And, yes, Gersen...sigh...'tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Haha, I answered a few posts ago!

It's people who post in this thread:

Got ya, I saw your answer but I didn't understand that it was a specific thread and not a general subcategory - I only ever post on this thread (or the other Chicago ones) so I don't get out much so to speak.

Pre, is Gersen leaving or are you just sad that you didn't take Legislation last year?

Also Pre, any word on departures/arrivals in general for next year?

Volokh for dean!

Damn, I gotta be honest: The Dixonian-esque accent sent shivers up and down my spine. Pure reflex. Memories have a way of haunting.

I just meant that I'm sad I didn't take it last year.

Who knows if Gersen is leaving or not... I hope not... but I imagine Harvard can be pretty tempting.

Nope, haven't heard anything either way. Although I guess we can't expect that much action after last year's huge class.

I still (seriously) want Jack Goldsmith.

On a related note: I just realized that Strahilevitz has to be a contender, no? If they really do decide to hire from within, he really meets most of the criteria. He certainly seems like he has the ability to fund-raise, be a good administrator, command respect from other academics, etc. Sure he's young, but he'll have 8 years at Chicago by the time he becomes Dean; thats not too bad.

Yeah I don't know anything about Huq, but I took legislation with Gersen and it was a pretty good class.  It was similar to Elements in some ways.

Are you serious? Holy *&^%...*world collapses*

P.S. Strahilevitz rocks.

I loved how Hutchinson mentioned that we used to place X number of clerks with X judge when Goldsmith would call and the same thing when "insert some other prof who we lost" - but that doesn't happen anymore. That was a really funny/weird line.

On the prof front, I really hope that they offer Crane to come full-time, especially since Epstein is leaving in another year. Given how active he is in both the academic and practical fields, he seems like a shoe-in for the next superstar in Antitrust.

Yes, that was depressing. Not that I would even considering applying to those two particular judges, but it still sucks.

I don't really know much about his scholarship, but I have heard people say good things about his class. Too bad he could only stay for winter quarter (he's going to Portugal on a Fulbright).

His lunch talk seemed sorta tedious. But he is a super-nice guy.
