Terriers, Hoyas, Trojans. Hoyas get a vote because it's the only 1 of the t25 that I was unable to identify as an actual thing.

And trojans? They were named after a people that was fooled by accepting a mysterious wooden horse filled with enemy combatants. Not exactly what I'd go for with an institution of higher learning.

Why don't more schools use the Athenians as a mascot?

Doesn't strike fear in opposing football players quite like "Quakers" does.

Penn fields a football team?

Haven't you ever heard of Joe Paterno?

I hope this is some kind of sweet sarcasm that went over my head

It is. It's well documented.

FYI: the convention is:

Penn = Penn State
UPenn = University of Pennsylvania

Ahh, memories.
I'll join the cool crowd: 3.23/173
Blinded by the light (Attending): UVA!!! Wahoo 2010!!!
Wrapped up like a feminine hygiene product (Accepted): UVA!! Fordham, Georgetown!!! NYU!!!!!!!!!
Another odor in the night (Rejected): Harvard

I voted for UChicago because at least their color reminds me of pirates. If they win, they can all scream: Marooned!

And USC used to be the Fighting Methodists a long time ago, until they shed their religious affiliation. When they happened, they started looking for a good team name. After USC lost a track meet around the same time, a writer for the LA Times said that even though USC was facing a losing battle, "They fought on like trojans." That is the origin of USC as the Trojans, and the cheer/greeting "Fight on!"

NYU = violets?  :P For some reason, they didn't advertise that during their admitted students day :)

 :D from what I remember when I applied to NYU undergrad, their women's teams are all the Lady Violets. It feels a little redundant.

Not that this has anything to do with the T25, but my high school mascot was the oh-so-original "Tigers." At least, that's what it was changed to in the 80s. Before that we were the St. Agnes Lambs!!  (St. Agnes is often depicted with a lamb...)

The University admits that the precise origin of the term "Hoya" is unknown.[1] The official story is that at some point before 1920, students well-versed in the classical languages invented the Greek hoia or hoya, meaning "what" or "such", and the Latin saxa, to form "What Rocks!" Depending on who tells the story, the "rocks" either refer to the baseball team, which was nicknamed the "Stonewalls" after the Civil War, to the stalwart defense of the football team, or to the stone wall that surrounded the campus.

In 1920, students began publishing the campus's first regular newspaper under the name The Hoya, after successfully petitioning Rev. Coleman Nevils, S.J., Dean of the College, to change the name of the young paper, which was originally to be known as The Hilltopper. By the fall of 1928, the newspaper had taken to referring to the sports teams (then called the Hilltoppers in reference to Georgetown's geography) as the Hoyas. Dean Nevils's former school, College of the Holy Cross, also refers to the term "Hoya" in one of its fight songs, as does a third Jesuit school, Marquette University.

this reminds me of the time that me and a friend were talking about how one could possibly make a mascot/nickname of the Big Red. We came up with an idea of filling the hockey stadium with red fog...that's so much more awesome than the stupid gorilla we have. blah

If only Campbell were in the T25, you would have the Fighting Camels to pick.  Not sure if that's one hump or two.
