Arkansas, how are the job prospects?
« on: April 08, 2007, 11:32:56 PM »
At this point my favorite school is Arkansas, but I'm worried about the job prospects.  Does anybody have any information on this?  I've been admitted to better schools, but Arkansas has friends/family close by.  Can I get a good paying job (i consider 60,000 starting salary plenty good)?  The U.S. news doesn't have a starting salary statistic...

UofA does well in Northwest Arkansas, KC, Tulsa, OKC. There is also a decent presence in Little Rock, although UALR grads have a stronghold here. Pay is low in Arkansas for lawyers (around $55k-60k unless you work for the Rose Law Firm). COL here, however, is ridiculously low. A $100k house is a NICE home here. I also read somewhere that WalMart is the defendant in approximately 10,000 lawsuits at any given time - wonder how many lawyers they hire?

This is just speculative but I got a pretty good scholarship offer from UALR and my dad mentioned it to several of the partners in the law firm he works at (One of the largest in Texas) and they spoke very highly of the program and thought I should go there with the amount of money that they offered.  I didn't take their advice but I just thought that I would throw that out there.

I'm getting similar advice (though i'm considering U of A in Fayettville). Something inside of me is still suspicious about it though.  They upped their scholarship offer to me today too...
