being creative with your JD

I'm interested to know how many of you want to use your JD for something other than working for a big firm and making partner. There is a lot of talk on these boards about how to get into a top school so you can get on law review and then get hired by a prestigious firm and be on a partner-track schedule of 2200 billable hours per year. Not to cast a pall over that kind of plan, but I'd like to see if there are any creative thinkers out there.

Examples:
* using the JD as a springboard into a consulting career
* usinge the JD to better inform your business decisions as you embark on starting a new company
* writing (books, columns, etc)
* teaching
* to enhance your current career
* getting a joint degree (like JD/MA, JD/MPH, etc) and focusing more on the legal aspects of the non-JD degree

I think that there are better degrees to get than a JD if one was interested in pursuing the areas you mentioned.

My first thought was of making a paper airplane.  :)

As for my career, I plan to use my JD as a Supreme Court Justice.  I hear not many people use it for that purpose, so I guess it's unique/creative.

On a similar note, mine will be an origami swan ;)

And yes, that is unique.  Out of hundreds of thousands with JDs, only 9 people are currently using their JD for the second purpose you mentioned :)

I'd like to do it just for fun, and then go into business for myself later on in life.
