What do you guys think?  I guess it was taken down because of bandwidth issues.

Bring it back and always keep it there!!!
Bring it back except when LSAT scores come out and the site crashes.
I'm fine without it.

Greater Bandwidth Worth the Lack of a Search Button?

Personally, I really liked the ability to search and think the value of the site is compromised by its absence.

is it gone because of bandwidth issues? I would've guessed it would be something like licensing fees for using search software. Is there an official reason why it's gone? It would be nice to get it back, the current google search is lame.

nevermind, found the reason here: http://www.lawschooldiscussion.org/prelaw/index.php/topic,84421.msg2073770.html#msg2073770

Absolutely.

I would argue that the overwhelming tendency of the site to crash compromised the usefulness more than having to go to the homepage to search.

The site still has the capability you just have to do a little legwork.

Guys,

Just to go the mainpage (http://www.lawschooldiscussion.org) to find the search area there.  You may not be able to do a detailed search, but I've been able to find threads much easier and quicker this time around than I was able to before, and this website in generaly has been MUCH more stable and reliable since getting rid of the search button.

Without a doubt it was worth it.

It is worth it, although I missed being able to search for posts by specific posters.

Well, you can always read their last posts.  Less efficient if you're trying to find posts on a specific topic, but it works.

It sounds so reasonable when you say it.

i'm fine without the search feature.
i don't really need to search because everyone i'd search for usually posts in the same threads as me.

My main problem is the need to go back out to the home page to get to that search box.  Is it not possible to put that google search box on all pages in the forum, kind of like where the old search button used to be?

I thought the same.

Allowing searches but only for threads within the last 15 days would help a lot.
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be the One.
Born to bear and bring to all, the details of our ending.
To write it down for all the world to see.
But I forgot my pen.

The fact that LSD hasn't crashed once yet since they removed the search function is really nice.  It was crashing a lot before, so I think it's worth the loss, especially since the google function works almost as well.

Though I wonder if come LSAT score release day, it's good-bye LSD for the next 24 hours again.
