last time I heard from Howard the email said that I would have received a decision in a few weeks...

I am still waiting after more than 1 month! :-\ :(

Ditto on the condolences, teotret.

I'm still overseas and waiting until July/August doesn't sit well with my Type A personality. I wanted to make sure I knew where I was going and the money was there when I got there, so I signed a promissory with UDC. That - and the tuition, P.I. focus, the faculty's resumes, etc.  ;D

I hope to see you guys down the street!

AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH

Offer of admission from Howard today. I have until 5pm EST Wednesday to make a decision.

I can cancel the promissory note and sign a new one for Howard (according to the people at Access Group), so I'm back to pros and cons for UDC and Howard. Here they are (pros bolded):

UDC
Cheap tuition and scholarship opportunities for 2nd and 3rd year
Clinic Program
Faculty - Some have done exactly what I hope to do post-grad
Attentive and friendly staff and faculty throughout the whole process

4th Tier
Not-well known and questionable reputation (according to past posts on LSN/LSD)
No OCI for students (though clinics and community service helps with that)
Handwritten exams all 3 years (minor concern, but still)

Howard
3rd Tier but nationally recognized
Study Abroad opportunity (South Africa)
OCI for 1Ls and upperclassmen
Faculty - Also very accomplished in areas I'd like to go into
Facilities: Slightly more room than UDC, recent library upgrade
Places well in competitions against other law schools

Tuition roughly 20K/year (UDC 7K/ 2-3 year)
Not as many clinics as UDC (possibly lacking the community service/experience element that made UDC attractive)
Some RUDE staff during admissions process

I know conventional wisdom is "go to the best school," but I honestly need help deciding. Any advice?

Despite your "set in stone" user handles regarding UDC, I knew in my heart that if accepted to HU, you'd change your tune.  I, for one, am glad that you did.  It's a great school.  I work in the Office of General Counsel for the VA, and the attorneys with whom I work, all have nothing but good things to say about HUSL, even the ones who did not attend.  I think you made the right choice, but again, it's YOUR choice, alone.  Congratulations on getting in!!  I'll see you in the fall  ;D

Thanks... I think. Not sure what the bolded means though.

Honestly, it was a hard decision. UDC has a lot to offer its students and their focus on public interest is compelling. Howard won out because while I admire the underdog spirit of UDC, I want to have the opportunity to do OCI and network with a broad alumni base.

Your user handle is located on the left-hand side where it says "P.U.S.H.  I think what I meant to say was your sig. located at the bottom of your posts.  LOL  *oops*  Anyhoo...have you joined the HowardLaw Yahoo! group?
