Fastest LOR Turnaround ever
« on: September 13, 2004, 02:06:24 PM »
So I ask one of my recommenders and he writes it immediately, sends it and it's already processed.  The whole thing only took about a week.  Now, is this good because he must feel strongly, or bad, because he wrote it so quickly...
It was nice to know that the LOR processing is much quicker than the transcript processing (at least it was in this case).

that is good.  it shouldn't take them too long to write a damn letter of recommendation in the first place. (sorry, i am just preoccupied at the time it is taking my prof to right mine)

now if i could just get my professor to write the one i asked him for over a month ago....

Usually a good sign...these things don't take much time to write.  Long shouldn't be equated with bad cause you never know how busy the person is, but fast is almost always good.

Wow... they must really be backlogged at LSAC.  I hope my recommenders send theirs in soon then... I've been on their backs about it, so hopefully I'll make deadlines...

Consider yourself lucky.  I asked my recommender to write me a letter...<gasp> in April and I am just now getting it.  Luckily, this is my "third string" letter, so I wasn't expecting much, but I think it turned out pretty good.  This professor is as repsonsible as a 7 year old on a sugar high, but even he realizes it.  He told me to annoy him because that is the only way he would get it done (that made me feel real special).  I sent him 10 emails this summer and he still didn't get it done.  Then this fall I went to his office hours and he said he would do it in a couple weeks.  Finally, he did it, but lost all the stuff I had given him (paper work, addressed and stamped envelope, etc.)  So he told me to come to his office, which at my school takes an hour because of parking, and he had forgotten it (that happened twice).  So after getting him to fill out the paperwork again, I finally got it and will mail it this week.

i just went over and talked to my professor in person today.  funny, however, how he had all my stuff right on the top tray of his files.  he asked me again when i needed it by, and i said as soon as possible.  i feel decent about the whole thing now.

The official word from LSAC (I asked them how long it takes for a LOR to show up in my account):

Letters of recommendation are processed in approximately two to three weeks after they are received by LSAC, and will be entered into your account when the processing is complete.  Because of the volume of
letters received by LSAC, we are unable to check the status of a letter until it is processed.

So we're talking upwards of 21 days in some cases to get LORs processed...you'd think they could hire some more help with all the cash the LSDAS & LSACD on the Web generates for them.
