With so many WL's, hardly anyone will commit to a school unless they got into their top choice... if they didn't get into their top choice, they will probably not withdraw from their WL's... and schools can't offer more seats of admission until people withdraw... it causes a sweet catch-22.So yea, I have a feeling that this year a huge backup in decision times could result... the only thing to help this from happening are seat deposits, and even those are expendable to most people if it means them possibly getting into a better school.Basically it causes most schools' hands to be tied until HYS are done making decisions. Once this happens the rest of the T14 will get some withdraw letters, and then gradually it will free up adcomms all over to offer more seats. There will definitely be gridlock. Just out of curiosity, I looked at UT on LSN today. Their seat deposit was due yesterday. There were still over 90 people who were accepted but had not committed to attend or withdraw. Granted, I'm sure a few are just people who don't update LSN and a few who have extensions, but still. Are there really that many people who figure that "the school will realize I'm withdrawing when I don't send in a deposit?" Or even worse, people sending in multiple deposits? That will really cause a nasty gridlock. Just put a little "A" next to NU after reading this. Of course I'm still on 4 waitlists...

Though strangely, I just got put on hold...You'd think that this late in the cycle they wouldn't "hold" people, they'd just Accept, Deny, or WL.Ah well, ::resumes writing LOCI::wtf! at that point they could just wait until April 30th (deposit deadline) before giving you a decision. what's the point of holding for 3 weeks? silly adcomm.
