ITT we provide cell phone provider recommendations
« on: February 20, 2007, 06:17:49 PM »
I need a new cell phone plan and provider.
I'm planning on not using a home phone and just using my cell phone.
these are the current plans and prices i'm looking at:

cingular: 450 anytime minutes, 5000 nights/weekends (9pm-6am) , plus rollover minutes for $29.99

or 900 anytime minutes for $44.99

verizon: 450 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends (mon-fri 9pm-6am, weekend is midnight saturday to midnight sunday), $31.99

or 900 minutes for $47.99

nextel (sprint): 450 minutes, unlimitied nights/weekends (7pm - 7am), $32.79

or 900 minutes - $49.19

sprint: 450 minutes,  unlimited nights/weekends (7pm - 7am), unlimited mobile to mobile, $35.99

or 900 minutes - $53.99

i'm thinking i like the 900 minutes on cingular with rollover minutes.  i don't like the 9pm-6am nights/weekends, but i do like the rollover minutes.  i could probably get by with 450, but i don't want to hassle with increasing the minutes later and not get my company discount if i change plans after i quit my job and start using the phone more since i won't be using the phone at work for calls during the day.

i'm a guy, so i have no idea how people go over 450 minutes.  that's a lot of friggin' talking.  but i guess i'll just get the 900 minutes to be safe.

all plans require a 2-yr contract.

is it even worth it to get a blackberry or anything like that, or should i just wait and see if i really need it?
i'm thinking i'll go by a cingular place tomorrow at lunch and check out the phones they have, but i have to order online for my company discount.

and cingular models that are just plain crappy?
any cingular models that will be good and last?

/heading home, so i'll check back in a bit
thx

i'm not super techy so i personally think blackberrys are overrated and wouldn't get one.

i also have a personal bias against cingular - long story short - i got out of my contract early, the proper way paying fees and all, and found out several months later they sent me to a collection agency for some bogus bill which they couldn't explain.  it took me a lot of time and effort to resolve this and i have vowed to never use cingular ever EVER again! RAR! (sorry i get fired up just thinking about it)

the nextel 450 plan doesn't sound bad.

see if this link works for you:

https://business.cingular.com/IRULoginDispatch.dyn?uid=LockheedMartin/37949

it shows my company plans and the available phones.  i think the one you mentioned is one of the free phones with activation.
i just need to sign up using my work email address.

yeah, but those rollover minutes could really help.
if you get a blackberry, don't you have to get additional coverage for texting and stuff that isn't included in the basic plan?

Jer: the link works, but to look at the phones page I have to register for an account or something. I'd go with the razr if I had the choice just cuz I hate having 2 big bulges in my pants. Although I hear they break somewhat easily.

i just clicked on it from home and it worked fine.
click in the 'shop phones and devices' tab or the 'shop plans' tab

jer, I vote the $40-whatever Cingular plan. Everyone I know that has Cingular loves it.

Also.. get a Blackberry! The only reaon I have for this is that it will make you look important. ;D

is there a difference in the blackberry or other cingular pda phones?

check out the cingular pda-type phones and let me know:
